This is where patience and persistence would be the key. Unfortunately, many Americans seem to lack a spirit of compassion, unity and community.

Wife has a former student who was in ICU with COVID for nine days. She's out now, but is expected to take months to recover. In her 20s, no known comorbidities. And here is my fat ass at 50, basically suffering a mild head cold because of it. No rhyme or reason, it's like playing a game of viral Russian Roulette.

Wonderful. It's a great relief. But she should know not to let her guard down. Moderna's vax takes about 10 days to kick in and a few more to reach 95% efficacy (I expect Pfizer's is the same). Some other good news is that in phase 3 trials, of the 15,000 who got the vaccine, there have been none to date who have developed severe covid symptoms, which is remarkable. (about 5% still get it). On the down side, maybe 50% get moderate to severe side effects which usually mitigate in 3 weeks.

Assuming you haven't already caved on this issue, the grandparents are going to be thrilled that they still can't see the grandkids because they're not vaccinated yet.

And what Geo mentioned is why we have anti maskers and science deniers. They just don't get that this isn't some flu.
