We're All Gonna Die

You can't fix stupid, you can only keep it from harming your kids. Had they, like every other FOX News watching dope in the US, done what they were supposed to we could have reasonably been done with this shtein in May. That house probably isn't selling any time soon, so good luck to them.

Stupid fargs like them are the reason your wife has to risk her life on a daily basis, don't forget that and maybe let them know it too.

Reason doesn't apply here.

My options are simple.  Relent and combine, increasing the risk my children will be exposed and possibly harmed (admittedly, not a great risk), or hold the line until there's a vaccine, and let my family break apart (to include my children never seeing their grands again).

Impossible situation.

None of this had to be this way, and surely I'm not the only family suffering extreme dysfunction thanks to it.

Seems like a clear choice to me, but I'd happily cut off family for less than that. I don't know, I think you probably had a better family dynamic that I did and don't have much experience prior to this in dealing with greedy, scheming family members who don't get called out on their bullshtein and guilt everyone else into doing what they want.

That is a tough spot to be in and undoubtedly one that a lot are facing.

Reason and Science vs Conspiracy and "Fake News"

The division sown by those who support the deniers is sad. All because some grifting huckster is wedge in the oval office. If there was any reasonable sane human sitting in that chair this would not have been what it is.

Your decision is agonizing. However the grandparents are the ones at fault here. Them and their choices alone.

The best possible outcome with the choices you're given is that you keep them away, they somehow don't get sick, they get over their big baby bullshtein when this finally goes away, and spend the rest of their lives telling you what a dope you are for believing that whole China Flu Hoax. Thankfully, in this scenario you didn't potentially expose your family to not only a potentially deadly virus, but a potentially crippling one if you live.

To be clear, these are not Trumpers, by any stretch.  They don't deny the science.  They just don't care if they get sick themselves, or apparently if their proximity makes the children sick.  They think it's so unlikely, that I'm just being crazy.  They wear masks when they go out (though not always around the children in the yard), etc.  But they do go out, and not for necessary trips only.  They're just old people in their second childhood, losing their agency and independence, and their willingness to consider others...normal shtein but in extremely abnormal times, with consequences that though they are very unlikely, couldn't be more grave.

These are people I love dearly, etc.

I've got very bad choices to make here.

Yes that is tough. An unenviable situation.

Perhaps you can attempt another discussion with them?

Rome

I'm eating at a restaurant right now for the first time since mid March. No one cares, so farg em.  I'm wearing a mask but you can't when you eat.  That's the risk.  If I get it, it's bad luck on my part.  All we can do is what's right.  I have.  For five months.   I'm sick of seeing seemingly everyone else scoff at me too.  I'm the paranoid icehole because my wife has no immune system, I guess.

Whatever.  If I die because I wanted a hot turkey sandwich today, it's been real fellas.

General_Failure

Compromise: They're allowed to come over, but you get to slap them as hard as you can in the face every minute they're not wearing a mask.

If you're young and healthy it's no big deal. Open everything up, wear a mask, and isolate the old and sick.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
