Howard and some prospects for Kyle Gibson, Ian Kennedy, and supposedly a Rangers prospect.

Bad deal if you think Howard is ever going to have more value but I'm not sure he will. Gibson and Kennedy are old but should be marginally more watchable than the slop the Phils are throwing out on the mound on a nightly basis. That said Gibson is a ground ball pitcher and the Phils can't field.

i wonder what was happening behind the scenes with howard. he went from their special little toy they had to handle with extreme care to disposable in like 4 months. maybe he was a prima donna or something and refused to listen to coaches or trainers on how not to melt down after the 2nd inning. i dont know. the whole thing is just weird that it went like this in a few months.

gibson is under contract next year for a pretty reasonable sum. he is not a huge K guy and pitches to contact. home/road splits are pretty stark. under 2 ERA at home in that big park, close to 4 on the road. so expect averagness from him - 3 runs over 6 innings being the mean. this is a massive upgrade from moore/velasquez. kennedy a pure rental but hes been pretty good. id think they have him close and move suarez to a multi inning fireman or possibly the rotation.

like the galvis trade, too. hes got some legit pop now. not really a great defensive SS anymore, more insurance for bohm and perhaps a little CF mixed in.

medina has been wholly mediocre at AAA and if he was even halfway decent they wouldve made the move for him already. anderson we know. sure they could sign hamels but he wouldnt be ready until labor day. eflin will be out for a few more weeks
