In today's NFL how is that not an illegal hit on a defenseless receiver? Does the blow have to be to the head? I thought they outlawed all of those blindside hits on defenseless receivers?

It was a clean hit and the ball was already in Mathews hands, barely, but he has his mits on it.

I thought the rule was they were defenseless until they have possession and make a "football move". Which is why so many of the calls seem like total BS.

Believe it has to either be a hit on the head/neck, a launch, or a spear with the helmet to be a penalty.

Okay yeah that makes sense. I knew it wasn't only blows to the head/neck that had been called in years past, just couldn't remember what else counted.
