Rome

If he wins too many Super Bowls too soon he might tire of the NFL and leave us for a return to college.

Is that what you want?  Huh??  Answer me, goddamn you!!

General_Failure

Of course not, I know he's got to play the long con. He's gotta out-Coughlin Coughlin. Ten years between superbowls and no playoff wins between them. Nobody'll ever see it coming.

The man. The myth. The legend.

I was fine with it. They didn't take my favorite players in each round, but they took guys I liked, and didn't pull any Marcus Smith head scratchers.

Even Hicks I get, because DeMeco is coming off an achilles and for whatever reason, Chip doesn't like Kendricks, so he's probably gone after this upcoming season leaving you thin at ILB.

Addressed the secondary when it was the biggest issue of 2014 aside from QB.

Chameleon

Kelly should be able to scheme his way to points. He had one large need on offense. He filled it with his first shot then fired five bullets on defense. The Eagles traded down for Rowe without lighting significant assets on fire then robbed an opponent of a 2016 3rd when the 4th round no longer held an offensive lineman that provided positive EV. If Kelly is the offensive genius everyone seems to believe he is, this was a smart draft.

The Eagles did not squander the future to entertain Chip Kelly's past.

i love how trading two 5th rounders is "insignificant" to move up five spots in the draft....but trading a 4th in the current draft for a 3rd next year is highway robbery

eagles got rowe

miami got jordan phillips, bobby mccain and tony lippet

not saying the eagles made a mistake maybe rowe turns out to be a stud...i like the pick...but sayin what they gave up is insignificant but trading a 4th now for a 3rd next year is robbery is to look at it thru eaglee tinted sunglasses

because of these deals the eagles went went like 110 picks in the draft without getting a single player....whether you agree with the deals or not...it wasnt highway robbery and not getting any players in the middle of the draft is not insignificant

QuotePhiladelphia Eagles: B+

Top needs: S, G, CB, WR

Chip Kelly might not have the maestro he coveted to run his offense, but he didn't leave this draft empty-handed. He has put a premium on guys that will buy in, and I think he got those types and hit a couple home runs in the process. Nelson Agholor to me just screams "high floor." He's a great route runner, plucks the ball out away from his body, has the proven toughness of a return man -- you should hear Polian talk about that -- and is sneaky explosive. He can get behind defenses. I also think Eric Rowe at No. 47 overall was a steal. He is a great kid and offers up versatility (CB or S), and I thought he'd be a good value as early as the end of Round 1. Jordan Hicks was a bit of a reach, but I can see where depth need is, given the group they have at linebacker. JaCorey Shepherd was often overlooked at Kansas, but was a steady performer and certainly helps at cornerback. Eagles fans feeling let down by this draft should cheer up -- they got some good pieces. If Sam Bradford is indeed the answer, they can be back in the playoffs.

scouts inc pick by pick breakdown....

aggie
What he brings: He doesn't have elite explosiveness, but he's a smooth and sudden athlete with good route-running ability to gain separation from coverage. He'll never be a big-play threat on contested catch situations, but he's a quick and decisive runner after the catch and as a returner. He has the versatility to fill multiple roles in an offense.

How he fits: The Eagles fill one of their most pressing needs with this pick, and though Agholor is the No. 2 receiver left on our board at this point, he's a safer pick than UCF's Breshad Perriman. Agholor's ability to line up on the outside, work out of the slot and even work out of the backfield will make it easier for Chip Kelly to create favorable matchups without having to make substitutions. He also bolsters an already strong Eagles return game.

rowe
What he brings: He has very good size and length for the cornerback position, and figures to be a press corner or free safety in the NFL. He's a little tight in his movements, so he can struggle to stay with receivers in and out of their breaks. He's a very physical run defender.

How he fits: The Eagles allowed 21 passing touchdowns to receivers last year, which tied for third most in NFL, and they had already started to rebuild the secondary heading into the draft. Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams are both gone. They signed Byron Maxwell and Walter Thurmond, but Thurmond signed a one-year deal and Brandon Boykin is a better nickelback than starter on the outside. Rowe is a perfect fit at corner in this press-zone heavy scheme and the Eagles also have a need at safety where he could line up if they feel he can help them there.

hicks
What he brings: There's a lot to like about Hicks' instincts, motor and range on tape, plus he tested well at the combine and he has the potential to develop into an effective special-teams contributor. However, he's on the lighter side for an inside linebacker prospect and struggles to anchor when he gets caught in a phone booth. He's also an inconsistent tackler with just adequate stopping power. Finally, he has had some problems staying healthy in the past, and Texas' decision to suspend him before the Longhorns played in the 2012 Alamo Bowl raises concern about his off-the-field decision-making.

How he fits: The Eagles traded for Kiko Alonso this offseason, and he is expected to start opposite the talented Mychal Kendricks. DeMeco Ryans will provide excellent depth as well, so inside linebacker doesn't appear to be much of a need at first glance. However, Kendricks, who has been the subject of trade rumors, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and Ryans, who turns 31 this year, is coming off a season-ending injury. Hicks is an excellent fit on the inside with the ability to push for a starting role early in his career in the Eagles' 3-4 scheme.

shep
What he brings: Shepherd comes with some tightness in off-man coverage but possesses fast eyes and is always aware in coverage. He also flashes the ability to anticipate and jump routes and has one of the best sets of ball skills we've evaluated in the 2015 cornerback class.

new randall

What he brings: Evans has exceptional size and length and brings above-average range. He has some tightness in off man coverage and is at his best in press, where he can utilize his length to turn and run with receivers. Evans also has the size to compete with bigger receivers in contested situations.

frankenstein
What he brings: Mihalik is on the taller side, so he has problems staying low at times, and he doesn't offer much as a pass-rusher. But he's got the length, toughness and strength to set the edge against the run. He fits best at defensive end in a base 3-4 defense.

bleacher report

QuoteAgholor is tall without being freaky big and fast without being freaky fast. He's a polished route-runner and a fine complement to young Jordan Matthews, on whom the Eagles will rely. However, he's not (yet) Jeremy Maclin, and Matthews sure isn't DeSean Jackson.

Unless Agholor stuns everyone and plays like one of the marquee receivers in this draft, Kelly's decision to twice let an established star wideout walk and burn his first-rounder on a rookie to replace him will rightly be questioned.

On the other side of the scale, Rowe is a perfect fit for what the Eagles need in the secondary and an outstanding value at No. 47 overall. A flex corner/safety who could have been taken at the bottom of the first, Rowe's contributions will be felt right away.

More reinforcements for the defensive backs came in Round 6 with Shepherd. Almost the opposite of pricey free agent Byron Maxwell, Shepherd could push for time in a threadbare Eagles secondary.

Don Ho

Why has there been no mention or talk of the UFA signings?  Is it that bad?

cause they mostly suck.....devante davis and eric tomlinson were the exceptions....of the ones I know or have seen they are by far the two best...the rest seem to be culture guys devoid of much talent

dres anderson a wr was imo the top guy again of the ones I know (other than obviously la'el)....dres went to the 49ers

there were several safeties that were up there as the best available udfa's...surprised the eagles didn't bag one

of course the eagles cant magically make players come to them but overall the haul was one of the worst I can remember for them

Philadelphia Eagles

Best: CB Eric Rowe, Round 2 (No. 47 overall)

Some expected the Eagles to address the cornerback position in Round 1, but in Rowe, they might have done as well in the second round as they could have done in the first. Rowe has all the size teams are looking for now at cornerback and should make an immediate impact in the secondary.

Worst: LB Jordan Hicks, Round 3 (No. 84 overall)

It's not surprising that Philadelphia picked up a linebacker in the middle rounds, but from a value standpoint, they could have done better. Hicks anchored the Texas defense last year and should make the team, but as a top-100 pick, he was a reach. Philadelphia could likely have moved down a round and still gotten him -- if not two.
