Maybe the thinking was he would be inundated with offers and best give him the spot now?

I'm not saying that's actually true just what Doobin was thinking.  Kinda like Chase was going to receive blockbuster offers from every team in the league (and maybe JAPAN!) so go ahead and lock him up early.

It's just part and parcel of Amaro's GM "style."  When given two options, do the one that:

1.  Is the wrong thing to do.
2.  Makes him look worse.

RAJ is all about saving his own ass. Once they start losing money and the reality of the awful contracts he's given out sink in he knows his ass is getting fired. Firing Charlie now lets him use him as a scapegoat. The right thing to do was to let him finish out the season...even if they lose maybe they get a high draft pick.

Next years plan: add some pieces to the bp...sign some fringe offensive players...tell everyone Utley/Howard/Rollins/Hamels look great again...play and there's a nes manager...play 500 ball until they have a meltdown. Rinse repeat. They don't have the capital to spend their way out of this mess until their tv deal goes through.

i know everyone wants to pile on rube, myself included, but the team quit on charlie and he cant manage anything other than a 3-run homer hitting team

the last 2-3 years the phils havent been that, and the results are what you see
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Sounds exactly like another Philadelphia team called the Eagles. If memory serves me right Reid was given the opportunity to finish out the season. The Eagles were about as bad as the Phillies are now...maybe worse.

And Reid didn't even win a championship. Hell, he only made it to 1 in 14 yrs. Cholly took the team to 2 straight and won 1 and also set the franchise mark for reg season wins.  He also coached a ROY (Choke), back to back MVP (Choke, Jimmy), and a Cy Young Winner (Doc). And he did it in half of the time Reid had with the Eagles.  For all his faults as a manager, he still did pretty ok.

Basically what has been observed around here the past few years but some great observations in this article.  This one being my favorite:

QuoteThe Phillies are a fossilized dinosaur inside a glacier, content to watch the rest of civilization drift away, convinced that the space between is growing at a manageable pace.

These clowns are going to get blanked again.   Incredible.

I hope they don't win another game the rest of the year.

As many hits as errors tonight.

I should have my head examined for watching that shtein last night.  I was struck by the number of people who showed up at The Bank last night.  Fellow masochists I guess.
