no MAG?
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

the silver lining and a reason to watch and root for total implosion is that they have a real chance to get a top 5 pick in next summers draft

1. marlins --
2. brewers 4
3. cubs 5.5
4. giants 6.5
5. mets, rockies, phillies 7.5

Rome

Very cool.  Especially this part...

I don't mind it, depending on the money. Galvis isn't going to be the 2nd baseman of the future here, and Utley still plays well when he's on the field. If it gets even worse next year, they can always trade him--if the money isn't absurd.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Rome

Ed is saying it's 14 million a year for 2 years with club options after that.

Incredible.  $14M per for a guy with chronic degenerative knee issues who hasn't played a full season since 2009.

I give up.

SD

They're trying to keep asses in the seats and stay somewhat competitive until they sign their TV deal, then they'll sell to the highest bidder and money won't be an issue. Of course free agency isn't the same game it was 5 years ago.

Munson

14 mil? bleh.

One website I saw said 13 mil...still bleh.

Their payroll is down to 104 118 mil next year before the arbitration guys

And having a guy playing half-seasons as a shell of what he was in his prime is the way to do that?  He's played most of this season and attendance has dropped like a rock.  It's time for a total rebuild.  The only person seemingly who doesn't see this is Ruben and that's the real problem there, not signing a franchise hero to a legacy contract.

SD

Teams with money don't rebuild. Not saying the Phils are the Yanks or Sox money wise but they're one of the richer teams in the league. Ripping apart the team would drastically lower attendance. Phils are 6th in the league in attendance. So what they're doing is working from a business stand point.

I remember a time not so long ago when they might get 15,000 a night to show up in South Philly.  If they were lucky.  They were winning and they were fashionable with non-fans.  That shtein won't last.  If attendance keeps dropping they're going to be in a world of hurt down there, and let's not forget the reason they could afford 150-160 million in payroll is because they were booking 45K a night.  If that drops to 30K or less, they're in big trouble, and that's what's going to happen if they keep mismanaging the team by signing aging fossils like Utley to deals like this.
