QB Eagles

I have no doubt that bigots pervade the front offices and locker rooms for many teams, but the media isn't making it any easier on him. They are going to descend en masse on whatever team drafts him and make a big circus over it, we all know that. Teams hate distracting shtein like that. It hurt Manti Te'o and Tim Tebow and it'll hurt this guy. Not his fault of course, just the nature of the beast. I wouldn't be surprised if the media circus costs him more draft positions than teams simply not liking the gays.

There are some teams (including the Eagles) that have a history of inviting a circus if they know they can get value from the player. If he's good he'll get drafted.

I feel like the gay thing is overblown. Who cares, it's 2014, sure there are still people who don't accept it but that's never going away. The majority of the country is for gay marriage Link. This whole issue gets sensationalized by the media. They'll show a few tweets from random idiots and maybe some athlete who's against it and act like that person has no right to an opinion and is actually in fact the devil.

You're making assumptions that his draft stock has 'plummeted'. The GMs that don't want him is because the media is sensationalizing this and they know it's going to be a distraction. If this were Clowney coming out as gay, does he drop out of the top 5 in the draft?

if jason collins comes out does he find a team?

I don't get the media sensationalism argument -- to me this is a huge deal and deserves the coverage that it gets and hopefully signals to many other professional or collegiate athletes that they can be (more) comfortable with who they are living their lives.

I'm not saying this is your stance at all SD, but to me, a lot of the people adopting the why is this a big deal perspective seem to be doing so as a way of almost disapproving of it without just seeming like a bigot.  I think it's a big deal because it can have an impact on countless future players in a positive direction.

alls i know is my old boss is a staunch right winger...today in his paper the gay news was the 4th note on page 2

either abject hate or "its not a big deal who cares." the right wing in america.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rome

If his being gay stops one team from taking him then shame on them.

I look forward to a day when this really doesn't matter but it does now and that's pathetic.

You guys are a riot

There is a large difference between saying I want to live in a society where this isn't newsworthy or that hopefully one day it won't matter versus it's irrelevant and the product of sensationalism right now.
