Obviously the Ravens should have checked the Orioles' schedule before winning the SB. That'll learn 'em.

F the NFL and their spoiled-rotten insistence on getting everything they want.  The home opener will be a big deal whenever it happens and if they cared so goddamn much, they could pay the Orioles actual money for the trouble...but why do that when they're the almightly NFL?

I'm glad the O's didn't let themselves get pushed around because the NFL at Park Ave has their heads up their own asses

The NFL most certainly should have, as soon as the knew they Ravens were in the playoffs, and the same for every other team that plays games in the same stadium or immediate area as the local MLB team.  A contingency plan that began in November would have a much greater liklihood of success than one that begins after the Super Bowl is over.

F the NFL, farg 'em farg 'em farg 'em.

Whether or not it's the first game of the season, the home opener for Baltimore will get good ratings, and lots of press, and they won't have a hard time filling the parking lots or selling beer.

doesnt even remotely compare to the thursday opener...its like having a mini superbowl in your city

It moves the Sunday revenue forward a few days, that's about it.  It's more hassle and more expensive for the City to police it, etc.  On balance, I doubt it's worth much more than a standard Sunday game, if in fact it's worth more at all.

its worth way more....the celebrities..concerts....media....people from out of town coming in....locals coming into the city who wouldnt for a normal game...i dont know why im trying to explain this to you but trust me its not even comparable to say the thursday opener and all that comes with it is the same as a week 9 game

christ even if what it cost to police it was equal to just the attention it brings on a city it would be worth it.....you want your city to shine nationally and this is the perfect stage...baltimore went out of their way to promote their city by getting a stinkin grand prix race....you dont think losing this game matters?

pretty much.....but the basis for not doing it is that the orioles refused to do it

even tho the eagles/phillies world series double header in 08 was awesome in every way....granted philly has a much more user friendly infrastructure than podunk baltimore but theres still no reason they couldnt have pulled it off

yeah, they are so close to each other it could be a true public hazard, just not enough capacity for both at the same time.

How likely is it the Orioles will be playing meaningful games at that time of year?

The man. The myth. The legend.

zero...and not cause theyll stink (altho they might) but because on sept 5th or whatever the date is there cannot be a truly meaningful baseball game

and even if there was the orioles wouldnt be losing the game like the ravens will be they will be moving it....theres only one defending superbowl champ home thursday opener a year in the nfl.....where as theres ten million half serious baseball games a year
