hopefully texas put in for phifer because of the pitching debacle that was the angels series

pay 1/3 of his deal smug and get olt

Olt's on the major league roster, so I believe he'd have to pass through waivers as well.

why...im no expert on mlb waivers but why couldnt they trade olt for phifer straight up if thats what they wanted to do...how is olt any different than if they wanted to trade josh hamilton for phifer
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

SunMo

every player traded after 7/31 has to go through waivers
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

ice grillin you

but even if you are minor leaguer?....i guess olt has to cause he was just brought up....but i know not every player in an organization has to go thru waivers...... maybe you have to be on the 40 man roster??

either way who cares about a trade....farging get phifers money off the books

If you're on the 40 man roster you have to pass through waivers, not on the 40 man roster you don't have to. Ruben has already said he's hanging onto Lee. So they have until Sunday to work something out with the Dodgers because the time limit to work out a deal is 2 days. Unless the Dodgers blow the Phillies away with prospects I can't see them moving him. If Lee were going to be a free agent this year he'd still get a similar deal to Hamels.

if smug pulls him back then he should be shot....phifer by himself is probably worth three years in terms of how far back the franchise is set

choke getting ebola is #1 but next on the list of things that can help this franchise the most getting rid of lees contract is a close second

he might just be talking tough to be a douche but if the dodgers are willing to just take his contract they have to do it

they can add in some young guys via halladay, utley, jimmy and chooch trades. start hof joseph, hof brown, freddy, hail ceasar and a few other young guys you get back in 2013. the ones that are good you keep. the ones that suck you buy replacements in 14 because youll have something like 150 million to spend

so yes they will be astros bad in 2013 but itll be fun. LETS DO IT.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

halladay is done after next year jimmy only has two more and not at big money

these kinds of guys arent a hinderant....choke and lee...thats it...thats the list....choke is not moveable which makes it even more important that you get rid of phifer

ps - hamels deal is horrendous as well but we all know he isnt going anywhere...they made their bed there they have to lay in it...good or bad

if you trade lee you are giving up on 13 and therefore should totally destroy the team, which is the smart move. bottom out. get major league close to ready youngins and throw em to the wolves.

if you think for some asinine reason you can make a run in 13 you keep lee and give it a shot.

but i implore everyone in the latter camp to look at the free agents for this year. el oh. el.

Not necessarily, you get rid of Lee and now you have $25 million more to spend on bats or other arms. "But there's nobody out there worth signing in free agency"...well that's what trades are for.

lol what?

they have no chance to win the world series in 2013....they wont be as bad as they are this year (altho its possible) but it wont be far off either...a wild card next year is tenous at best much less some sort of championship run...

i know, thats why i want them to blow this shtein up

best case scenario for 13 is everyone stays healthy (doubtful), the over the hill vets perform like they are 29 (no), and they get those lucky little breaks that a few teams grab each year (think 2012 a's).

if all that happens they can perhaps get a wild card spot. if you want to waste a year on that go for it.

of course then 14 is a disaster with nothing but young players. so you basically set up 3 straight terrible seasons.

or you call 13 what it is, and by 14 they might be able to at least be competitive.

thats the major problem with this team and what smug didnt look ahead to...injuries are the obvious and easy thing to point at but again and ive said this a milion times over the last couple years....the whole farging team is going senior citizen at exactly the same time...this is much bigger than any injuries....you cant rebuild on the fly when that happens......must. blow. up.

and the right handed power hitting bat they need doesnt even exist in the FA market. they dont have the parts to trade for one.

the only thing they can do is spend money on the bullpen (joel peralta?), sign a mid-level starter to fill out the rotation, and sign speed to fill out the lineup. go straight pitching and defense. bunt. squeezes. first to third. second to home, etc.

thats the only route they can go in 13 and its got 3 massive problems: 1. the manager cannot manage this way, 2. the ballpark is not conducive to it, 3. its very arbitrary and difficult to work.

i know its difficult for people to accept losing but the best possible thing for them in 2013 is suck and suck hard

i obviously agree...but how does tanking in 2013 and 2014 stand next to caking off heidi the way they did...they dont work in tandem

this is the problem with smug....he has no plan whatsoever....he gm's on the fly...rather than ever looking at the big picture....his major problem is following a legend...hes trying to live up to gillick by attempting to be a genius and win a world series in the next five minutes...he does this because hes so scared that his legacy is going to be that of the guy who sent the team into the shteinter following the master gillick....smug is all about smug where as gillick was all about titles
