Well I for one am glad Claire bentz wont be saddled with that pesky luxury tax this year

Lord knows she deserves a break
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

some thoughts that they flip some of the prospects they got today to SD for Headley, but I haven't read anything more on that.

Joseph seems to be a legit prospect from his #s in A+ and that he's holding his own at 21 in AA.

That being said, Schierholtz is a 4th OF and Rosin is meeeeh.  Disappointed in the return, though if Joseph becomes legit I guess it is OK.

Rome

If they were 25 games over .500 right now they wouldn't give two shteins about the farging luxury tax.  They bottomed out, they have no chance at the playoffs and they're older than shtein up and down the lineup.  This was happening at the end of the year anyway, so pointing at the money as the reason they're getting rid of these guys is stupid.

This is partially true but every time you exceed the luxury tax you have to pay a higher %. It goes from 17.5% of your payroll to 30% to 40% etc. If they were able to depend on postseason revenue maybe it's not an issue. At some point they had to cut payroll and retool.

QuoteRuben just told Blanton he was getting traded to the Orioles. Joe was all like, "Dude, sweet!! I love Oreos."

Really wish the account was real.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Rome

My point was if they had the choice between going for another championship (a legit one) and exceeding the luxury tax they would have bought rather than sold today.  Money is the overriding factor this year because it's pointless to hold onto these guys and waste a year over the threshold.

So Reading is playing Richmond tonight. Richmond is the AA team that Tommy Joseph plays for. Meaning he doesn't have far to travel to play for his new team.

Just like Ichiro.

And the Phillies had to throw cash at the Giants to take Pence. This deal just gets better and better.

MDS

Are really that upset over losing a 20/90/.270 guy who stood to make 15 million next year?    I like pence but come on.

SunMo

people's biggest issue is that they bought high and sold low, which is understandable.

at this point, i'm happy RAJ didn't sign him to a 5 year 60 million deal simply to justify the trade he made with the Astros

Exactly. Joseph isn't as good of a prospect as either Singleton or Cosart is and Santana was a throw in and now he he's a damn good prospect.
