Just read an article about the 10 most disappointing players in baseball in 2012.

Halladay, at #7, was the only Phillie on the list.

Not sure why Samuel wasn't always the 1B coach... I seem to recall him being a good base-stealer.

I think it's laughable that Uncle Cholly is being brought back (2008 final victory lap?).  Just get rid of him and start the Sandberg era.  They're a team in transition anyway, so why not get it underway now rather than wait?

SunMo

I think it's laughable that everyone is so horny for Ryne Sandberg just because he was a great player.  what the farg makes anything think he's going to be a great manager?

i don't care if they get rid of charlie, but people are in a lather about sandberg and it's silly
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Sgt PSN

I don't get it either. It's pretty rare that great players make great coaches or managers. My guess is that the fan base doesn't want to see him turning out to be great with another team.....again.

thats because its rare for a great player to even want to coach or manage...theres not exactly a long list of examples to pull from to support that theory

also i have no idea about sandbergs mangerial skills but baseball is the one sport where you have a significant numbers of good to great ex players being successful managers...in the end sandberg is either a good manager or he isnt...i dont think his playing career has anything to do with it

his minor league resume and reputation are good enough that id would be fine with him as the next skipper of the phils

Exactly, IGY.  And I'm not in a lather, Jonnycakes, although I'd be lying if I said I wanted Cholly back.

MDS

does sandberg have a copy of "the book?"

that is my question
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Nice way to fill your playoff void.  Bleacher Report and their stupid slide shows.

QuoteNot only will manager Charlie Manuel go without a bench coach next season, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the Phillies will hire an assistant hitting coach and "have targeted" Matt Stairs and Mike Sweeney for the job.

According to Salisbury their goal is to hire a young, recently retired player to work alongside new hitting coach Steve Henderson, with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. explaining that "we've researched it quite a bit, so we're going to go with a two-man crew."

How about a GM two-man crew?
