late 80's - 88 i think....back when miami was ridiculous and all they did was talk shtein and fight people and notre dame was equally as good when they had lou holtz.....the hype for the game was already off the charts....and then a couple of notre dame students made t shteins leading up to the game that labeled it the "catholics vs the convicts"....it then went to another level....pre game brawl on the field.....and then the game actually lived up to it....31-30 nd because miami went for two instead of kicking an extra pt for the tie

you know how badly even today that the media wants nd to be good...well imagine they were that good and deserved all the hype and were playing the number one team in south bend....that alone would be titantic...then add in miami being the defending champs and having the rep they had.....it was probably the best college football game ive ever seen
