And more importantly, wins will never be completely discounted by casual fans who don't care to partake in extensive sabremetric analysis. So, complaining about how little they matter over and over again is a preposterous waste of time.

lots of words

you are totally over simplifying the issue.

of course most of the time "good" pitchers are going to get "wins." if you give up 2 runs in 8 innings you are generally going to get the win.

again, take coles start from monday. he blew 2 separate 2 run leads, gave up 4 runs in 7 innings and got the win because his offense happened to score a run in the 8th. if that run comes in the 9th he gets an ND. why didnt he get the loss? because jonathan niese also happened to be just as mediocre? what does this prove?

now take cliff from wednesday. he coughs up a 2 run homer..then his offense gets it back and takes him off the hook.what does that say about him? what does it say when throws 10 shutout innings against the giants and his offense cant score one run?

getting a win and getting a loss are entirely based on things out of your control. you cant hold your own lead. you cant score runs for yourself. so if you have a 1.30 ERA and are 2-10 are you a bad pitcher? or do you have a terrible offense? what does it mean. tell me.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Santana has a no hitter going through 7. He's up over 100 pitches and the bullpen was up.

Trying to be the first Met to throw one.

Jinx, motherfarger.

Don Ho

No ESPN channel has cut over yet regarding Santana.  Softball on the deuce, NBA on the mother ship and nada on News.

I farging hate the Mets.

But another glimpse of the greatness of the Mets broadcast.

Go to commercial before the bottom of the 9th?

No way. They eschew the commercial break to watch the warmups and talk the history.

Don Ho

Good call J.  that was funny, broke away for about a nano second to commercial and came right back.

I despise the Mess but you have got to love the suspense of a possible no hitter.

Ahahahahah some cock Mets fan ran onto the field and joined in the celebration.

Mets players celebrating while dude is getting thumped behind them by police.

Don Ho

With all the great pitchers that have been through the Mets organization, 51 years without a no hitter is amazing.

The fan who joined in on the celebration had on a Carter jersey and jean shorts...hilarious to see that.

Put an asterisk on it....blown call helped him get it. Should have given up a double.

:-D  Fatty Ryan should sign those security dudes for special teams.  They cleaned that dude out.
