What does it say when jumping to the Cleveland Browns is an upgrade?

i love how they fire the pr hack who had to do the dirty work and explain how upping the noise to drown out the fire andy chants and the boos were just a way of improving the gameday experience. as if hes the bad guy in all this.

this is such a disgraceful organization from top to bottom and it starts and ends with lurie. hes the one who handed the keys over to that accountant pipsqueak jew and who left his worthless coach overstay his welcome by a good 7 years. farg him.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

so aside from the titillation and schadenfreude of an in-season firing (which is not to be underestimated), it there business rationale for it?

while candidates wont (or cant) commit before season end, an early firing sends message - especially if accompanied by statements that subtly say what team is looking for and what the "conditions" of employment may be in terms of who's left in the inner circle? Might gain a few weeks in the process and be just a bit more prepared for off-season? Also keeps howie off-balance as now he can just safely scurry out of the way of the daily reid shellings?

Sure an in season firing might not make any coach feel good about how their eventual "end" might go, but if its really bad now, and tolerated, what does that say about management and desire to win at every game? Would anyone really think bad of lurie if he had fired Rhodes at 3 an 9?

OTOH maybe the team is just gonna wallow in mediocrity for a few seasons anyway so why bother?

when andy goes is pretty much irrelevant....as far as prospective coaches he is fired right now...people know the job is going to be open....firing andy on tuesday doesnt change that

what does have a real impact on the coaching search is howie farging roseman....i cant see a legit coach working for him...not suggesting any of these guys would come if howie wasnt here but can you see a bill cowher - tony dungee - john gruden or ANY other veteran even semi successful nfl head coach sitting down across a conference table and getting grilled by howie farging roseman...

yes lurie would obviously be there as well but if howie is still the gm you eliminate a significant section of the coaching pool before you even start looking

ill say it again..everybody gotta go and the first hire you make is a president of football ops....your own personal ron wolf....a guy who knows the game and can put together a top notch football organization

Question is, does Lurie want an unknown assistant who is likely to be so greatful for the opportunity to be a head coach that he won't buck the system or does he want a no none sense coach?  If Roseman stays, I can almost guarantee that Lurie will hire a relative unknown...just like he did with Reid.

yep i guess thats the real rub. If Lurie postures that howies in, then the pool immediately shrinks as they press release themselves as the "smartest guys in the room".  ugh.

Now if he gets jesus and wipes it clean then now were talkin. And I just don't see that outside a few players anything is salvageable - no scheme, no coordinators, or many assistants, many players all need to go. and howies got the 'taint of all that.

Plus wrapped up in all this uncertainty is the old rule of getting hired...you don't necessarily have to be the best candidate, you have to be the best candidate available and the good ones will vanish quickly leaving Einstein hair and boy blunder reaching (a la recent drafts) as they panic by late january after their hail mary waiting on someone in the payoffs turns them down.

yup....this is precisely why the etch a sketch needs to be shook hard....a total blank slate is enticing to even the biggest names because the ego always tells people like that that they can do it....come on jeffy....let them build it and they will come
