Eagles Season Prediction Thread - 2011 Edition

I'm not going to argue that the oline isn't important, but the Steelers have won 2 Super Bowls with less than average olines.  In the NFL as it stands today if you have talent at QB, can rush the passer, and have a strong secondary....you can win. 

My biggest concern like I said is that pass rush wearing down by the end of the season.

i think you are confusing the steelers line maybe last year with the years they won....their offenive line in 05 or whenever they beat seattle was really good and the other year it was above avergae

steelers had an outrageous front seven who destroyed qb's.....the eagles front seven is weak

the steelers were soft at cb.....the eagles are stacked

the steelers had a big tall game managing pocket (albeit mobile) qb....the eagles have a tiny running qb

because he was so good for large parts of last year i def leave open the possibility that vick has truly transformed himself as a pocket qb...but hes still 5'11 and i doubt hes grown over the summer...which means he still cant see over the lineman to make the short accurate throws that back off a blitz and until i see otherwise vick in those situations will always bail out to run

really the steeler teams that won couldnt be more different from the eagles this year so im not sure they are an example to be held up as to why the eagles can win it all this season

the one similarity (hopefully) is that the eagles have a long standing coach who could never get over the hump but finally after 10 plus years wins a sb

The steelers havent had a good line in a while. My point is the eagles have enough talent that they can win. Coaching is also a huge concern

i agree theres like 15 teams that have enough talent to win and i dont think anyone is disputing that the eagles are one of them

these days its so watered down that if you have enough talent to make the playoffs you have enough talent to win the superbowl and thats like half the league...problem with the eagles is that their lack of talent is in horrible places...OL and D front seven

lots of winning it all is of course luck and bounces and maybe everything will go the eagles way....its certainly possible

i personally dont see a team with a 5'11 running qb and/or no offensive line will ever win a superbowl

i mean right now on paper you can make the argument that the eagles have the worst OL in the nfl

Coaching is a huge factor in comparing Philly to the Steelers. They base their game off the fundamentals of football. Possessing the ball more than your opponent with a running/balanced offense and a defense that is arguably the best in the league, year after year. They are completely different (and better) team than the Eagles in every aspect of the game.

Mussa there is no such animal as a balanced offense in todays nfl. The last two super bowl winners won it with awesome passing games and very pedestrian running games.

Bottom line is the eagles always seem to make it to the playoffs....hopefully the difference with this team is they don't have a vadge for a QB

In the Eagles case it comes down to o-line protection and right now that seems to be the weakest link. If they can't protect Vick, why rely on the pass so much? They don't need to score 40 pts a game if they can manage the clock and keep the other team off the field. Our defense can't be on the field more than our offense. If our o-line was legit, I'd be all about the pass. It's not, so you have to play smart with what you have. Vick can't be great without protection, no QB can. All the elite QB's have amazing lines, or they have an offense built to run first or a defense that can stop almost anyone. We have neither. I realize todays NFL is a passing game, and we have the offensive weapons to be elite, but our o-line has issues and until they solidify that up, don't expect the Eagles to be able to hang with Green Bay this year. I don't know how much more obvious it can get really.

if the offensive line is that bad (and it is) what makes you think they can run block any more than they can pass block

i agree its a disgrace that they are going into this year with this line but its absolutely ridiculous to say because of that they should morph into a running team...number one because andy reid would never ever do it and number two why would you waste all the weapons they have on the outside

they are built for big plays and flinging the ball around....its to late to do a 180

they were 3rd in the nfl in pts last year and 5th in rushing....neither offense nor running the ball was their problem

Thats with Vicks rushing yards, that sort of hard to count as real running yardage. They can run the ball when they want to, that's why its frustrating to me when they don't. I'd rather see them take their time on offense then force things and have so many 3 and outs when they should be sustaining long drives and controlling the clock.
