its ironic because andy has always prided himself in the OL and the depth of the unit benefitted the eagles many times over the years....now when they are all set up to make a honest to goodness SB run they dont even have a good starting unit

and god forbid they have any injuries on the line this year as the second unit is a straight up travesty

Yep... that's what keeps bugging me too. All these shiny new toys ain't gonna mean shtein in the end without a competent o-line. Too many times in the past, Andy has gone into the season with a huge glaring hole on the team. Punt returner, RCB... this year, it's the o-line that's going to be the part of the team that drags everything down.

the one difference with the other times tho was that the year prior the hole wasnt there...in this case the line was terrible last year and wasnt imporved in any tangible way...you have to think andy is banking on vicks escapism again and figures with the best running qb of all time he can have a zesty line

on the positive side re: the hole this year is that at least they have two young guys who could improve and by seasons end maybe their line will be much improved...when they had no PR it wasnt like reno mahe was all of a sudden gonna be a player come week 9

as i mentioned the other day the early season schedule really helps them...best case scenario is get to the bye week at 5-1 hope watkins and kelce have grown up the line has meshed and they are ready to go coming out of what should be a training camp type bye week where they are teaching and people are learning
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

I also think he thought hiring Howard Mudd would automatically make the line better.  And maybe in a normal year that would be the case.  Hopefully like you said they develop midway through the season.

The receiving corps from 1999-2003 disagrees.

To be honest, how were they going to improve the o-line this offseason??  There wasn't really any major names on the market, so their hands were kind of tied.  Hopefully the fireman turns out to be a player, and our oline is a bit better this year.

I'm just hoping that they aren't so bad that Vick gets hurt because they can't protect him.

Not necessarily arguing against 5-1, but I'll moneyback guarantee you the Eagles lose Week1.

I'm not sure what qualifies as major names, but there were certainly players available that would have been upgrades

5-1 is best case

4-2 would be perfectly acceptable

im not arguing the wr didnt suck but you can win with weak wr because they are a part of a much larger whole where as the entire offense is dependant on the OL.....imo you can have weak wr's but you cant really have a hole at that spot if that makes sense...and a positon like PR is on an island by themselves and has a monster downside in turnovers...certainly with a vick you can somewhat overcome a terrible offensive line which is what andy i guess is counting on...however if anyone but vick is qb last year they are 6-10 because of the line...they were never 6-10 from 2000-2004

They reportedly went after Doug Free who would have been arguably a bigger addition than Assy. Free would have drastically upgraded RT from last year and also would have allowed Herremans to stay at LG.
