That doesn't surprise me a bit.  I've been to several games over the years in Tampa and it's quite simply the worst goddamn place I've ever been.    The stadium is a hole, the fans are pathetic and thin-skinned as hell, and the iceholes who work there are miserable pricks.

A buddy of mine was thrown out for razzing the Orioles bullpen (we were sitting right behind them) and he's an ORIOLES fan.  He didn't use any profanity whatsoever, just got on them and stayed on them for sucking.   A fat security guard came over and told him to be quiet, and of course he took exception and told the prick it was his right to say whatever he wanted.  The fat prick called it in, more security nazis came down and they trespass-warned him.

QuotePUNCH SHOTS: Nationals taking an oh-fer from Werth

Published: Sunday, May 29, 2011

By Matt Smith

When Jayson Werth signed a seven-year, $126 million contract with Washington in the offseason, the job description required him to be a franchise player, perennial all-star and clubhouse leader.

He's none of those things.

Werth is feeling the heat in the nation's capital, and it's not even June. The Washington Post ran a column lambasting the right fielder for comments he made following the completion of the Nationals' recent road trip that produced one win in eight games.

"I've got some ideas obviously, and some thoughts, none I really want to share with the world," he said. "I think it's pretty obvious what's going on around here."

Werth was asked to elaborate.

"I'm not really going to get into it right now. It is what it is. It's unfortunate. We're a way better ballclub."

It sounded as if Werth was cryptically suggesting the Nationals would be better off without manager Jim Riggleman, who may or may not be on the hot seat.

Perhaps, as the column pointed out, Werth is biting off more than he can chew. If Werth was producing, this wouldn't be a problem, and chances are the Nationals wouldn't be in last place in the N.L. East.

Werth is failing miserably with his new team. He is batting a paltry .245 with eight home runs and 18 RBIs, and he's hovering around the .200 mark with runners in scoring position, a stat all too familiar to Phillies fans.

Werth should take responsibility for the team's struggles and stray away from making confusing comments that will likely draw the ire of teammates, frustrated fans and reporters looking to bury the guy every chance they get.

Werth is the highest-paid player in franchise history (it's not even close). He shouldn't throw his manager under the bus two months into a marriage the Nationals might soon live to regret.

Maybe when Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper join the Nationals in 2012, Werth can go back to being just another guy on a team of blooming young stars.

For now, Werth is the "it" guy in Washington, and he can no longer hide behind the likes of Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins. But until he puts up, he should shut up.

Oh, damn...   :-D

SD

He followed those comments up by dropping a ball and going 0-3

PhillyGirl

He has 126 million reasons to not give a shtein, I suppose.

He's so stupid.

nah, don't care what's going on in DC.  He got paid and the team sucks without Strasburg and Zimmerman as expected.  They're gonna be good within 5 years though when Harper is up and guys like Zimmermann, Desmond and Storen establish themselves.  Sorry, no MOCK from me...

Sgt PSN

Yeah, but it's not like Werth will still be part of that picture.  He might still be there because his contract is untradeable, but he won't be one of the faces of the franchise.

QuoteGiants GM Brian Sabean didn't pull any punches Thursday while speaking on his KNBR show today. He called Cousins' targeted collision "malicious" and said he didn't blame Posey for refusing to return an apologetic phone call.

"Why not be hard nosed?" Sabean said. "If I never hear from Cousins again or he never plays another game in the big leagues, I think we'll all be happy."

Asked later in the interview if perhaps those words were too harsh, Sabean didn't back down. In fact, he left little doubt that the Giants are bent on getting some on-field vengeance.

"He chose to be a hero in my mind, and if that's his flash of fame, that's as good as it's going to get, pal," Sabean said. "We'll have a long memory. Believe me, we've talked to (former catcher Mike) Matheny about how this game works. You can't be that out-and-out overly aggressive. I'll put it as politically as I can state it: There's no love lost and there shouldn't be."

Cry some more, would ya?

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
