I like the Quentin idea - except he's a health liability. I'd be a little wary of giving up too much for him based on that. But he'd be the top or at least a top three candidate to get.

without knowing anything about his situation and simply based on contracts he makes sense. thing is chicago has a veteran squad and even if they implode this year they would want major league ready pitching in return...something the phillies cant really offer. ja happ was that guy but that ship sailed last year because of oswalt, someone they probably wouldnt have needed if amaro never dealt lee.

2 guys who will be out there--carlos lee and milton bradley, arent especially attractive. i think el caballo is roughly 300 pounds right now and last time i checked he had 1 homer.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Some statistical beauty's from Gelb;

Ibanez riding a tight 0-21 slide

Their 6-7-8 hitters are currently 2-63

Ibanez & Chooch a combined 0-41

farg us.  What is Ibanez batting since the all-star game in 2009?  Wasn't that the last time he was hitting the ball with any zip to it?

Don Ho

Didn't he crack in April of 2007 when he called out Eskin in the locker room?

Or perhaps his boss, the oh so eloquent Ruben Amaro Jr, should shut the farg up about insinuating that his manager is blowing out the bullpen?

He's working with the disaster that Amaro left him.

ice grillin you

i dont think he insinuated....he outright called him out and while i dont think he should publically be doing that to his manager hes right on

So he's right to call out his manager publicly for using his closer too much?

A closer that is only the closer by default because the original guy had his shoulder go out and the back up is too big of a vagina to handle the pressure of the 9th?

And because the only real option was to use the 39yr old Contreras because the other guys are farging awful? You want David Herndon, Mike Zagurski, Mike Stutes, Danys Baez or JC Romero closing games for you?

Ruben Amaro's fault for leaving this team with such a shoddy assed bullpen. And then the nuts on him to call out his manager for using the only real options he has?

Yeah ok.

if you know contreas is acient then im sure charlie did...there was absolutely no need to run out a 54 year old non closer like he did and thats a completely different issue from what they went into the season with

My bad - missed the publicly part

And again I ask you - who should he run out there then?

And how is what they went into the season with NOT an issue?

ice grillin you

its not who he ran out there....its how much he ran contreas out there....cant be putting a guy like that out there four days in five nights five days in seven nights ect.......shtein thats a lot for some younger guys who may be actual closers

Lidge's injury really handcuffed Cholly and unfortunately, it happened in the spring when it's too late to do anything about it.  If you want to fault Rube for going into the spring thinking Lidge was going to be fine, then I guess you could knock him for that.  The middle relief Rube gets heat for because Herndon and Baez suck and we knew this from last year.  They probably should have kept Durbin.  Kendrick is too up and down imo.  At the same time though, when you've got 4 starters who are going to give you a minimum of 7 innings almost every night, I guess middle relief isn't going to be a priority.  Hell, even Fat Joe will go 7 in close to half of his starts (he averaged about 6 2/3 last year).    So yeah, I don't think middle relief was looked at as a major issue.  Best we can hope for right now is for the Phils to weather the storm so to speak for the first half of the season and that Rube will be able to pick up a quality arm before the deadline.  Hell, even with the terrible offense and bullpen, the Phils are still tied with Colorado for best record in all of baseball, so it's really not that bad.  Yet.

Grit needs to hurry the farg up and get back though.
