It's been fairly universal in the NFL that evaluating a draft class is a three year deal. This isn't news.

He had a helluva 2012 draft

Pro Bowls don't mean shtein

Bullshtein

We've known for quite some time those drafts were garbage. By the end of 2011 we knew that draft blew. By the end of 2012 we knew that was a good draft. Two years max to evaluate a draft. If players aren't contributing by year two they never do. The "fully" evaluate part is something he throws in there as an excuse for his boy.

You don't have to be an elite player to make a pro bowl

Pro Bowls are bullshtein and should never be used as an indicator of anything other than popularity and how many times someone clicks their name on an internet ballot.

Sometimes you know when drafts are zesty but time has to be given. It's commonplace to give three years before fully grading a draft. Obviously there are other factors involved like when your pick would rather fight fires and never studies his playbook. But outside of those instances you give your draft class time

QB Eagles

Pro Bowls are a crude measure of who is good, but it is a measure. If a guy is making Pro Bowls, that usually bodes well. Foles is a weird case. Foles might have a higher ceiling than anyone else the Eagles could get at QB for 2015, the problem is that he reached that ceiling last year. We've seen the best of Nick Foles.

Normally I would say give drafted players 3 years to reveal what they are. In some cases, like Marcus Smith, who didn't exactly need to be a world-beater to get on the field for meaningful snaps this year, I don't mind contributing to an early obit. But you keep him around 3 years anyway because of what you paid for him, in case the light bulb goes on. For an example of someone I still cling to some hope about, this past draft, I think Huff can turn into a meaningful player. He made amazingly dumb mistakes that cost the Eagles dearly, but those can be corrected. He showed some flashes also.

Qb nails it

Also if they had 8 pro bowlers over those 5 drafts Howie and Lurie would be using that as propaganda fodder

Bottom line is Chip is a football guy who doesn't know how the nfl works. He doesn't respect Howie and probably says to himself " I'm not listening to this farging guy". He needs someone he respects and not some accounting nerd. Promote Gamble

Howie vs Chip is a good thing if true.

Bye Howie.

howie bumped banner....cant imagine chip who has been around for 5 minutes is going to knock off an eagle lifer who grew up under lurie

the good news is that hopefully this is a war over player acquisitons with Howie favoring athletes over good guys with college degrees that chip prefers

so what you are saying is that lots of players who aren't even that good make the pro bowl because the rosters are huge and lots of people drop out letting almost anyone in and still none of howies picks can make it?

or are you suggesting that you are happy that none of his players have made it because that would mean they suck

Howie sucks, but he had to convince Chip Kelly to not take Taylor Hart in the 3rd round. I don't trust Chip Kelly either. His incessant love for Oregon is nauseating and if any of the players from that school brought in could play a lick, maybe I'd understand. Chung... sucks, Huff... sucks, Hart... sucks, Maehl... sucks. Keeps Riley Kkkooper, lets Jackson go, and decides that keeping the same secondary + Jenkins is an adequate way to improve your pass D.

Chip has proven nothing in terms of player personnel.

in no way am i defending Howie I just think there needs to be a clear separation of duties....theres a reason you can count on one hand the number of great head coach/gm's in the modern era of football

coaches coach players....gm's pick them (obviously with input from the coach in a lot of situations)

also where tom gamble at

I have no idea what Tom Gamble even does for this org. The only thing ever reported of substance about the guy that I've read is he was one of the driving forces behind Isaac Sopoaga and he had a hard-on for Dion Jordan. But I'd still take him as head of player personnel over Howie and Chip. At least he was part of an organization that built a playoff caliber roster and has more experience and a larger body of work.

Good to see another person here...welcome, AP81.

Igy...Gamble is gonna get poached by someone to be GM. Probably the Jets.

As for the Pro Bowl thing...it's a joke. Fletcher Cox was a sixth alternate and Kendricks wasn't even an alternate at all. They're deserving. But they're not going to go. Does that mean they're bad in the eyes of this argument of using pro bowls as an indicator?

no matter what you think of the pro bowl its way better to have players in it than to not

If you say so...I don't use it for anything and I don't watch it

The only thing it's good for is betting the over

im pretty sure you are confusing the probowl being a bad game because it might inlcude the 3rd best free safety in the nfc with the eagles having the 3rd best free safety in the nfc

the best player at every position is not always starting in the pro bowl....but don't get it twisted you want as many players as possible on the roster

It's good to see some objectivity for a change. Some of the other boards out there are an absolute train wreck

Welcome my friend!  Even our resident homers are iceholes.  This board is the best reality check for any Philly sports fan.

Yes on all counts.  Like QB said earlier, Chip vs. Howie is good.  Get that pencil dick out of Novacare yesterday!
