I'd be surprised if Howie got Clowney. Why not just keep Bennett? They are comparable players but Clowney would cost more in salary and draft material, and a possible future cap hit.

they aren't remotely the same...clowney is a 26 year old elite edge rusher/OLB type in the prime of his career

Bennett is a 34 year old situational mostly inside rusher who is close to retirement

if you don't want clowney for whatever reasons that's fine but saying you wouldn't do it cause they just could have had Bennett makes zero sense

if you wanted Bennett to save money or whatever then keep him and don't sign Malik Jackson

If I was still waiting for them to get that first ring, I'd say do what you've got to do to get Clowney even as a rental, but they did and I'm not convinced he'd sign long term here.

I'm not going to be mad if they manage to get him without giving up someone decent, though.
