Yeah, as much as I knock McNabb, he was still a very good regular season QB.  The division may not have been consistently strong from top to bottom, but most years from say 2000-2010 at least 1 other team in the East was legitimately good.  The Eagles playoff success during the McNabb era, especially from 2000-2004, can largely be attributed to a relatively bland NFC though, more so than McNabb being good.

the eagles werent even legitimately good for many of those years much less half the division...except for the TO year the eagles were id say bleh good...it wasnt like they were the bills of the 90's

in their defense the league became watered down in the 2000's but regardless the eagles were never that good and the division was atrocious outside of the eagles in 04 and the two miracle giants over pats wins

The Eagles were legit good in 01 & 02 and very good in 04.  03 and 08 were more fluky.   Early Reid / JJ defenses were very good.

none were flukes but they also weren't anything special any if those years cept 04

a real team wins a super bowl even with the bedwetter bad qb's can win a ring but they have to be part of a legit team...Eagles were a good team in a horrible conference nothing more

I'm not saying they were good in comparison to historically good or great teams.  But in comparison to the rest of the league at the time, the Eagles were a very good team.  Also in comparison to the rest of the league at the time, there was usually 1 other team in the division from year to year that would be considered to be a good team....like good enough to grab a WC spot.  Was it the NFC East of the late 80s and early 90s?  Nope.  Not even close.    But just because they weren't on par with a historically better era of football doesn't mean they weren't good during their own era.

the 01 team probably had the best defense....hanging with that rams team on the road in the nfccg and giving 5 a chance to win in the end (little did we know how pointless that was) is legit

02 and 03 i can get behind being more "good" than great. those conferences were really lacking elite qbs and certainly there was little to no competition in the division

04 they were great. they lost 1 regular season game. they had the conference locked up by week 14. they almost beat the greatest qb of all time in the super bowl but that POS just couldnt help but give the game away

but point blank a great team overcomes 5 being pathetic and beats brad johnson and jake delhomme at home in a playoff game

i dont see how a defense wins them 2-3 extra games on their own merit. the special teams arent even that good. sproles is a fossil....sturgis is whatever....kick returns are questionably worthless.....what big effect will st really have?

thats what i dont get...i dont think j realizes how good of a defense you would need to give this eagles team and offense that many wins

now if you said i think the defense is going to be excellent and wentz will be better than everyone thinks then i could see going with 8 wins

but the defense and st by themselves is going to win 8 games?...doubtful....and thats what it will take because the offense is likely winning them zero games this year

Unlike some people I use my eyes and knowledge to form opinions. I don't need beat writers to tell me what to think. They're useful for quotes and tidbits of knowledge that pertains to the team that we would otherwise not know.

Their defensive line is good. Probably can classify it as really good.

The pressure they'll likely get will help negate the weakness at corner. I think Schwartz will scheme well too. The LBs are decent. Provided Jordan Hicks stays healthy.

The defense has been good, but they are not the reason why this team is winning. The defense hasn't won them anything. Offense is putting points on the board and the defense is keeping them off.
