Random Eagles Information Still Not Worthy of a New Thread

He's $4m for them if they keep him, $16m in dead money if they move him.

I forgot about that cap hit. In that case you'd think Jordan's not going anywhere. Of course it is Miami we're talking about and there was talk they might trade him. Maybe (as I'd mentioned at some point before) if 2 teams traded players with big cap hits it would be a wash. Still seems unlikely.

So, is anyone going to start a thread on the draft and do the eagles go wr in maybe the second or third because this is supposedly a very deep draft for wr's.

We do have an NFL draft thread already but don't have an eagles thread, though usually have a separate thread for each player as they are drafted. As for WRs, the 1st round in particular is heavy in high quality WRs. I think Chip goes for a WR in the 1st unless a good value player drops to him. Lee, Beckham and Cooks are the likely candidates and I like Cooks the best - tremendous production last year and he is the most DeSean like on the field (just a little bigger and  faster) and unlike DJ like off the field. He's also never missed a game since HS which is impressive. Seems ike a good for a QB like Foles. Beckham has a lot of potential too but didn't put up the gaudy TD numbers Lee and Cooks have. I think they also had Allen Robinson from PSU in, though could maybe drop down a few slots and still pick him up.

Also btw on the Dion Jordan thing, actually I think the Miami cap hit would be more like $10 million than $14 because the guaranteed roster boni and base salary travel with him to the new team.

I was thinking maybe linebacker in the first, wr or defensive back in the second or third. I think the offensive line is set for a while but they could draft in the later rounds for depth and because in two three years as a group they'll be getting up there in years. But, Howie says they're drafting the best player available no matter what position he plays. I can see that up to a point, but if the best player is a runningback or offensive lineman, do you still draft him? I wouldn't.

id have no problem with an offensive lineman if he was best on the board there.....three fifths of their OL have been in the league for more than 10 years...

they also are due for a season ending injury or two next year along the line...and the depth there is a joke

I feel like you could get depth and maybe someone to develop after the second, I just think there are way bigger needs right now. Like linebacker. Do you still want to see Killer starting at LB? I'd rather see him at end.

But you are right that they're old and they might see that protecting a led foot qb as a bigger need than linebacker if the right player is there when they pick.

of course id rather have a dominant pass rusher...but best player on the board is the issue here...if howie takes the best player avaiable and it happens to be a lineman then i wouldnt have a problem with it...also at 22 there isnt going to be a "killer" pass rusher....potentially WR/DB yes....edge rusher no....

Best player available is a bit of an nfl myth. It's not like teams have a board with numbers 1- 256 or whatever and whichever player is next in line when the teams picks gets chosen. Most teams look at small groups of players with similar grades and see what makes the most sense from that group. A number of teams have their board set up that way, in small clusters of players with similar ratings and look at the group for the best fit when their turn comes up.

Eagles just locked Lane Johnson and Jason Peters to contracts with a good bit of guaranteed $. If a highly rated tackle fell to them and everyone else had lower grades, would they take him? No, they'd have to pass on him for someone that makes sense. Teams like to say BPA because it makes the incoming player feel good and helps manage the questions and controversies as well as the egos of players already on the team. That said I do agree good drafting teams don't necessarily go for areas of need and look at things as they will develop over the next few years.

id rather have a lineman who i think has a 90% chance of being a really good starter (say maurkice pouncey) than another position who im not thrilled about (brandon graham for example)

Agree if it somehow came down to that. One writer mocked Xavier Su'a-Filo to the Eagles. Supposedly a beast with a mean streak who can play all 3 OL positions. Still doubt there wouldn't be a similar player at more of a need position though.

ice grillin you

yeah this really isnt the draft to be bringing up best available because theres so many good players in it that you are going to be a few rounds in before you see someone jump off your board as a clear best available

im not hoping they get him but i cant imagine a scenario where i would be really upset if they took filo....i like him a lot

If the best player available is an offensive lineman, running back, or TE, then I would hope superstar Howie can find someone in the NFL willing to trade with him. Assuming no one writes a hit piece on the 22nd pick the day before the draft, anyway.

I just hope they don't look over a guy named Isacc, Jaccob, Riccardo, or Ericc for the wrong reasons.
