Also, I'm guessing that any type of push notification I receive eats into my data allowance.  So email, facebook notifications, score updates, etc are all running up my data usage, right?

Yes.

i didn't know iphones had anything other than unlimited plans. granted i have never even seen a bill for it since its through work but i just checked cellular usage and it says ive used over 16GB in the last 8 days and 18 hours. so i guess it resets every month. but i don't see how it would be possible to stay under 2GB...i don't even use it for anything crazy but seems like i average 2GB per day.

SunMo

sprint is the only carrier with unlimited data at this point.  at&t started out that way but they got crushed so they changed it.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Thought so.  I don't have very many notifications turned on and I'm sure that the data used on push notifications is fairly minimal anyway, but I just want to make sure that I don't get caught off guard.

How do you turn off push notifications? When I was doing set up it asked me if I wanted to send my info to Apple so they could make updates, I said yes like an idiot. Any idea how I'd reverse that?

I'm 99% sure this is what you want.

Settings/General/About/Diagnostics & Usage

Select "Don't Send"

Also, whenever you download new apps, a lot of them ask you if you want to receive push notifications, badges, turn on location services, etc.....

For example, the facebook app will send you a notification for everything from the get go.  So you'll get notifications for new messages, comments, replies to comments you made, events, friend requests, tags, etc.  I've only got push notifications enabled for new messages and wall posts.  I don't care if someone is sending me a friend request or tagging me in a picture.  That shtein can wait until I get home.  If I had every facebook notification turned on, my phone would be blowing up all day with notifications.  Farg that.

If you ever want to change any of the options associated with any of you apps, go into Settings and then scroll down the screen until you see a list of your apps.  Tap on the app and you can adjust everything there.

How do I remove my credit card info? I won't order shtein but I'm afraid my daughter will while she's playing one of the 'free' apps. I tried a few suggestions online by going into the itunes stuff but it won't let me delete it.

Sgt PSN

Not sure about that one.  I'm pretty sure you have to provide a cc just to have an itunes account.  But every time you download an app, movie, music, book, etc you should be prompted to provide your password before it will install....even for free apps.  Maybe there's a setting to change that in iTunes on your pc, but I don't know of a way to change it on your phone.

Also, there is a small window (maybe 5 min tops) where if you download an app and provide your password that you can keep installing new apps without having to re-enter your password, so as long as you dont hand her the phone immediately after downloading an app, you shouldn't have to worry about your kid accidentally buying anything.

Getting parenting advice from someone who doesn't have kids is like getting dieting advice from someone who's morbidly obese.

iBooks ftw. Winnie the Pooh is a free download.

Got me there.  I'm just saying i'd invest in an otterbox before handing a kid a phone, or give them an older phone where nothing can get messed up.

Games on phones are great for car rides when she's bored. She has a DS but games on that thing aren't cheap.
