I think it's fair to restrict the discussion to quarterbacks.  And I give the major ones more credit than McNabb, because they didn't shtein the bed every time it counted.

Was he the best Eagles qb by the numbers, yes.  But it's not about numbers, it's about championships and, given much better chances at one than any of the other qbs since '60, he dissolved into a puddle of vomit.

you can give him credit for being the best qb in eagle history and still hate his farging guts...i dont know why those two things each cant stand on their own

They can. That's up to you. They don't for me because I never liked Donovan because I thought he was a nice guy. I don't know the dude. I couldn't care less about that. shtein... I'm not a nice guy half the time. I like him because he was a helluva QB for the team that's on my mind more than anything for the past decade. It's also why I have absolutely no issues rooting for Vick. I don't give a shtein what these guys say, do, think, farg, kill or anything else as long as they help the Eagles win. That's what Vick's doing now...and that's what Donovan's done for more than a decade. I appreciate that. What I don't get is the need to act like a scorned girlfriend every time he says something that's not kissing peoples asses? Honestly...who gives a farg?

Right, but Donovan is a taterskin now and will most certainly never win the big one and even more certainly not for the Eagles.  In Philadelphia, we boo the skins QB.  All day long.

Why restrict it to QB's? They're certainly not the only factors in if a team wins a title or not. All these players have had hands in it. Coaches as well. There have been PLENTY of Eagles who've come up small in big spots. Respected ones too. People don't seem to remember that Westbrook had something like 19 y rushing in the SB. Dawkins was one of TWO Eagles to mistine their jumps and get beat out by Mushin Muhammad in the NFCCG. 18 other Eagles got dragged into the end zone in that same game. Teams win. Teams lose.

You and I both know that if he was coming back in a Chargers uniform or something, we'd be having close to the same conversation. The jersey damn sure ain't "irrelevant", but it's not the real reason for the boos either.

It's hard to give him credit for that because

a.) he failed so reliably whenever it counted most
b.) he's soft, which is perhaps just a restatement of a.)

Then you'll have a hard time giving credit to every Eagle who played after 1960 because they're all guilty of "a".

1-6 in championship games.....no qb ever much less an eagle qb has gotten so close and failed so miserably in big games than donovan

thats not at all why he will be booed....jason cambell was never booed...not any more than every other player that comes out of the visiting tunnel...to say mcnabb will be booed the same as every other taterskin is just not true

the fact is when you combine the choking aspect with him not liking his own fans to him being a douchebag in general the guy is just not very likeable...thats why there is going to be a lot of boos

I do find it funny that for a board full of tough guys most everyone here cares oh so much about how players say something and what they say. As long as the players on the team are not raping or killing people (dogs don't count) who the hell cares how they are off the field. Fans have this obsession with trying to prove scientifically why a certain player fails where another succeeds. It must be because of personality or how they sit on the bench or how they act in pre game.

Remember these guys are dumb as bricks. They say stupid things all the time even when they try to say the right things. When Vick talks now its funny to see him think before he speaks. Its extremely rehearsed. But who cares?

its amazing to me how people cant understand why fans might wanna like the people they root for...or how certain players are more likeable than others

i cant imagine just blindly watching sports like that and looking at and feeling about every player exactly the same just because they have a certain jersey on

an honest self analysis produces the realization that my interest in football the game and in the individual athletes who play it is in no way objectively more real or valuable than my wife's interest in celebrity gossip.

right...but even tho i feel the exact opposite i can understand not caring about pro athletes and see why people are apathetic about them

but on the flip side why cant people understand that dawkins is more likeable than mcnabb...and in general people root for not just teams but the players on them

Well, the simplest shtein seems to amaze you so I'm not surprised.

And I do like the guys I root for. I jut like them because of what they can do for my team. Not because of what they say or don't say.

and what did he do for your team?

won a bunch a games against a zesty division for years.  played brilliant at times, awful at others.  was 1-4 in NFCCG, 1-3 when he was the favorite.  and he played like shtein in the superbowl

Simply put, he led the team that gave me a whole lot more good Sundays than bad. Do I wish they'd won a SB in that time? Damn straight! But I'm not gonna act like all those good years of football didn't happen when I think about the guy. I'm also not gonna act as if he was the only person who had a hand in those failures.

As frustrating as those playoff/SB losses were... It could have been worse. Go ask a Lions, Browns or even a Skins fan if they would trade their team's last decade for yours.

feva is on point here.

What did he do? Well do you think that they would have been close to those championship games or super bowl without him? Perhaps they should have drafted Ricky? Or better yet - Akili Smith or Cade McCown?! Or maybe they should have traded the icehole in 2003 after he failed to beat Carolina and had his ribs cracked? Or definitely after the super bowl loss. Probably would have been better off with a journeyman like Jeff Garcia.

What did he do? Ridiculous question.

Yeah he's such a soft batch punk. Ooooh he said mean things about the fans! Grow a set. Jimmy Rollins called Phillies fans front runners and was lambasted. We all talk shtein - Philly fans more often than many - but when it's thrown back it's like all he broke loose.

11 years of being relevant in the NFL. 11 years of watching good footbal.

Did we see a championship? Nope. And it farging sucks but to ignore what mcnabb did because of what he said or perceived slights is farging retarded.
