Softer helmets with some give to them would do that.

Magical_Retard

So Harrison was crying that his hits are legal and suspending him or fining him would be a bitch move so in return he pulls a bitch move himself by declaring he might retire? What a drama queen. Only would hurt the Steelers. Not the NFL.

I'm pretty sure they exist.. from what I hear it's a money issue.

Rotoworld reports Addai could miss several weeks with both shoulders injured. More unusual good luck if he and Clark are out when Indy rolls into town. Maybe their punter will still be drunk too.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

QuoteMike Zimmer on Bobby Petrino: "He's a gutless bastich"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 20, 2010 4:03 PM ET
Let's just say Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer doesn't look back fondly on his days coaching under Bobby Petrino in Atlanta.

"He's a gutless bastich. Quote that. I don't give a s---," Zimmer said Wednesday, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

When Zimmer was told that responsible news organization may not be able to use "bastich," Zimmer responded:

"How about this, gutless MF. You can use that."  (Awesome.  Much appreciated.)

Petrino famously didn't tell any of his assistants that he was leaving Atlanta for the head coaching job at Arkansas.  On Sunday, Zimmer's Bengals face a Falcons team that has been almost completely remade since 2007, especially on defense.

Meanwhile, the "gutless bastich" has Arkansas back in the top 25 in college football.

"Woo Pig Sooie!"

UPDATE: More from Zimmer, via Reedy: "[Petrino] is a coward. Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people's lives, a bunch of people's families, kids, because he didn't have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That's the truth."

That...was...awesome!

Solid rant.

I hate Bobby Petrino.

haha thats amazing

i get that kind of stuff off the record from the coaches i cover but never like that

damn thats great
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Don Ho

:-D Holy Crap.  How do you really feel Mike?

From Rich McKay, co-chair of the compitition committee

Quote...he did say that a defensive player who launches himself at a defenseless receiver can be flagged and fined even if there's no helmet-to-helmet contact.

"A lot of people call it helmet-to-helmet but that's really not the way you can call it anymore because in essence it says that until a player has completed the act of a catch, you cannot initiate contact to the head or neck area with your shoulder, your forearm or your helmet," McKay said. "That was expanded two years ago because there were so many hits going on where there was a shoulder hit that was going to the receiver and causing injury."

So even if Robinson only used his shoulder to hit Jackson, it was still a penalty. That will come as a surprise to a lot of NFL fans who thought a hit with the shoulder pads is a textbook example of what a defensive player should do.

It looks like they want to make players responsible for what they do even if it seems hard to anticipate or avert, like those ticky tack brushes with a QB's helmet they call a personal fowl on.

Will they continue along those lines and eventually fine/suspend players for any kind of hit that could unnecessarily put another at risk for injury, regardless of where they are hit? I think judging from the current trend we could see that within a few years. Could this be signaling an end of an era of football as we know and love it, with the big hits and physical intimidating play? Glad I still have some of those Eagles games from the late 80's and early 90's on vhs.

James Harrison, shockingly, is not retiring.
