Evidently it's lost on all of you that the Eagles are only cutting these guys solely because of money.   I guess that's cause for celebration if you're a Joe Banner fan.

Actually they've been cutting them because of their production for the most part. Who in the past few weeks has been cut that was producing at a high- farg that- somewhat consistent level? I'll be one of the first to bash the FO for being cheap, but the guys they are dumping are dead weight. Get rid of them and put some hungry kid in there place this spring/summer.

Howard has 16.5 sacks and 3 FF in the last two years. He proved that he wasn't an every play guy anymore but was definitely still serviceable in a rotational role.

Of course they have 3 other guys like that already at the position, and my guess is Howard was making the most coin out of all of them.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Witherspoon and Howard were both productive.  Curtis, Westbrook & Andrews weren't productive because they were injured.

All five had huge money coming to them.  That's the common thread here.

SunMo

in an uncapped year, when anything is possible salary wise, the eagles go the opposite route and choose to take this opportunity to cut all their mistakes without cap ramifications.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

they know they have no chance at a superbowl so they are cutting old injured mostly unproductive veterans and setting themselves up nicely for when there is a cap again....this is the perfect time to do this as there is no penalty for it...taterskins have done the same thing at an ever bigger rate and no one would ever accuse them of being cheap

if they really cared about money they would cut assante or trade donovan for a 3rd...shtein they renogotiated with stacey andrews rather than cut because hes young and if not inured can be a valuable player

if they were in the superbowl last year id be going ballistic but they arent even close to the best team in the division much less the nfl...ill also be pissed if in two years under the new cap if they dont make a huge splash in FA ....but for now this is the way to go

this also makes it more promising that donovan will be gone come draft weekend....and before they can truly move forward that is what must happen
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

if they really cared about money

i should say that they absolutely do care about money to a fault...but i dont believe that is what is happening here....altho i would not be surprised at all to see them not be a player in the 2011 -12 -13 FA markets...and if that happens they should be and will be crucified....BUT....right here right now in a football sense only they are doing all the right things this offseason

cutting those players has nothing to do with letting mcnabb go. damn you're putting in a valiant effort here selling mcnabb being traded.

IGY is stroking himself wicked with the hope of 5 gettin dealt.

Quote from: ice grillin you on March 18, 2010, 06:43:11 PMman are the eagles getting young....they may go into the season as the youngest team in the nfl

They were already in the bottom 25% on opening day, and with the latest cuts, they now have only four guys on their roster that were born in the 70s (McNabb, Akers, Juqua and Sheldon)...

MDS

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I tend to agree. If Banner ever meant anything by "the definition of insanity" then I think it is becoming clear this is what he meant. Nothing to do with Reid or McNabb individually. The same format of trying to fill weaknesses with free agents that haven't panned out wasn't working. Now I think the organization is ready to build something young from the ground up and try again instead of just patching holes every year. At least I hope so, because the team is far away.

Now if the team can unload McNabb for some actual value, then that is just more young talent going to be added via the draft. Then there will be something to get excited about. The next best thing to having an already great team is having a young up and coming team with a lot of talent.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Munson

Maybe it's just me but I think I'd rather see all this young and up coming talent spend the next few years growing with an actual NFL QB leading the team and not someone who more likely than not will be almost average at best.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

The BIGSTUD

McNabb will only be here one more year anyway if he stays. But I really hope someone trades for him. It would be nice to come out of the draft with 3 players in the first 2 rounds. I'd love a linebacker and safety of the future to be two of those.

If they get a 1st rounder for him I wouldn't be too mad about it. But i doubt they will.
