The Panthers' announcers are going on and on about the Richards hit.  Hell, Scott Stevens is going to the hall of fame for hits like that.

If Richards gets a long suspension for that, hockey truly is dead.

the reason they are going on and on about it is because their best player got knocked out cold and is hurt...not so much what richards did or didnt do

the color guy who i dont know  has been more than fair about it...said it was a shot to head which it was but also said booth should know better and needs to keep his head up...after it happened he almost was overly critical towards booth

the pbp guy called it dirty...and randy sexton is you saw his interview btwn periods was PISSED

The Panthers shoud be pissed about it, but it should be taken care of on the ice.  Instead, they're going to wait for Daddy Bettman to come down with the switch and admnister "justice".

who is their color guy?...is he new cause i dont remember him from last year...hes obviously an ex player but i dont recognize him

i like him a lot

Bill Lindsay, the former Panthers pest/fighter.  He's pretty good.  They got rid of Denis Potvin, obstensibly about the salary.  I like Lindsay better.

thats right....cant believe i didnt realize potvin was gone...he was one of the all time great homer announcers...i hate his farging guts

speaking of panthers and fighters i would expect them to call up or trade for some muscle because their top two players went out tonight on hits and they had literally no one to respond

Goldstein (the pbp guy) said that he was told by Panthers management that they would send the tape to Bettman.

Like Bettman needs that now.

The NHL has become a Hoyda league.

he didnt need to be told...sexton said they were going to do it in his 2nd period interview

flags, Richards isnt that type of player.  Booth got caught plain and simple, and Richards had already committed the same that he did a few years ago to that Thrashers player.  I expect at least 3 games since hockey is dead how i grew up with it.  Also some great hitting by Tollefsen to break Moore's Sun Mo nose.

JVR, i have to say, has surpassed any expectations i had, he has a very impressive skillset.  He's not physical, but throws the body around as much or more than Knuble did, and has hands that cant be taught.

booth actually caused the hit to happen the way it did.  richards did nothing wrong there.  of course, colin campbell might see it differently especially considering it was a flyer who did the hitting.

i was a bit fired up when i posted that, but thats no different than the Scott Stevens Specials that the league loved.  I expect richards to get at least 3 games.  When richards commited to the hit, booth still had the puck, when you watch it real time its a boom boom play.

im not even saying it was a dirty or terrible hit but he did smash him in the head/jaw/face and thats a no no

like lindsay said booth brought it all on himself but lets not completely act like it was a picture perfect hit...it def was a penalty small suspension hit

he committed the cardinal sin of hockey in philly.  Dont skate with your head down.  And how pathetic are the Panthers, absolutely no physical response to that, the Dvorak hit, or Tollefsen blowing up Moore's nose.  I just cant see how they are even in this league.  I was listening to NHLRadio on NHL network last week, and they had the coach of the panthers on.  He said their goal was go go out and play a good solid game every night.  Seriously?  A solid game?  You play to win the game, and they just  want to play.  Contraction is needed, and the GAWD started with Booth's brain

Quote"I thought it was a late hit and dirty hit," Sexton said. "These types of hits have no place in the game. I didn't see the hit live. I was making a note on my game report, but I knew when they didn't show the replay it wasn't pretty."

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren fired back at Sexton pretty quickly.

"Randy Sexton should watch more hockey games," Holmgren said. "It was a good hit. Mike Richards is just doing his job there. If you slow it down frame by frame, I don't see how you can [suspend] him.

"He went to finish his check on a player who had just passed the puck, and he hit him. His feet never left the ice, and it was a shoulder hit. The young David Booth turned his head, it looked like he saw him at the last second, but as he turned his head, his head took the blow. It would have been a shoulder-on-shoulder if not. It's a physical game, and sometimes those things happen," Holmgren added.

"The guy is in a vulnerable position," Panthers captain Bryan McCabe said. "You hope a guy wouldn't freakin' cream him."

"He was in a vulnerable position and Richards knows he's in a bad spot," Keith Ballard said. "That's the same stuff they've been trying to cut and put an end to. He's looking the other way."
