Hobbs was pretty damn good last year too. I would imagine that it will be open tryouts to see who performs the best back there. Genuinely top notch kick return options, whodathunkit?

I looked at Hobbs' stats after the Eagles got him. In yards per KO return, he's #1 among active players, and #5(t) all time in the NFL. Whodathunkthat?

Ellis Hobbs will miss the season

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 11, 2009 11:59 AM ET
Acquired for a pair of fifth-round draft picks on draft day, Ellis Hobbs was fitting in pretty well as a Philadelphia Eagle.    He was usually the team's nickel back and gained the the primary kick return job during the season.

Hobbs' season is now suddenly over because of a neck injury suffered Sunday night against the Cowboys.  The team announced Wednesday that Hobbs will be placed on injured reserve.

Rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin took over for Hobbs on returns Sunday, and is likely to get more work there.  Joselio Hanson should get more consistent playing time at cornerback with Hobbs out.

Most famous for giving up the game-winning touchdown to Plaxico Burress in the Super Bowl, Hobbs will bring 47 games of starting experience to free agency next year.  (And plenty of quotes for the collection of reporters that cover him.)  The Eagles could bring him back as a restricted free agent if there is no new collective bargaining agreement.
"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.""  R.I.P George.

great timing...

QuoteMysterious absence coming for Joselio Hanson

On the same day that the Eagles lost cornerback Ellis Hobbs for the rest of the season, a report has surfaced that cornerback Joselio Hanson could be gone for roughly a month.

Per DelawareOnline.com, Hanson will be out for unspecified reasons.

"I'm just going to say that the NFL don't treat players the same," Hanson told Geoff Mosher of DelawareOnline.com via text message.

Bottom line?  It looks like a four-game suspension under the substance-abuse policy or the policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances.

So are we all in agreement that the Eagles need to spend some hig draft picks on CBs this year?

Trevard Lindley and Jorrick Calvin did a nice job being deactivated last night.  The corners are fine.

i'd rather see a strong safety to replace mikell, he stinks.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

rjs246

Mikell sucks no doubt, but CB is a much more important position and it makes me farging nervous trotting Patterson out there to start every week. I mean, if this team makes the playoffs, the Green Bay and New Orleans WRs will eat them alive.
