wow 2 years $16 million, a righty, 5 years younger and they would have kept their 1st round pick. Way to go Ruben.

He's going to have a great half year in Tampa.

Which half, though?  He could make MLB history if he got the game-winning hit against the Phillies in the WS this year.

Too bad the Rays are going to win no more than 83 games.

Rome

He starts out like a house on fire and then May rolls around and he turns to shtein.  He was a disaster in the playoffs last year and aside from the one meatball he hit in Game 5, he was all but useless.  It's only gonna get worse for him and that's why he's a DH now.

Best of luck, Pat.  Tampa's got some kickass clubs, especially along Dale Mabry, if you catch my drift.

It used to be.  It's a toilet now.  Bad element has moved in and a lot of clubs/restaurants have closed lately.  It's a shame because it used to be a great place to hang out.

are you really that upset about this? what happens after 09? arbitration again? now Werth is a FA and you risk 2 guys down? No?

plus that 1st rd pick is the 28th pick. not saying you cant get some ok guy there, but now they allocate more to the other guys in the draft which they were successful last year

the whole continuous hitting .227 in may, .181 in august and .205 in september thing....peace...thanks for your contributions to a championship...lets move on

If they had signed him to a 2 year deal they wouldn't have to worry about LF till 2010 so I'm not sure what your point is, not to mention they have prospects that could be MLB ready in 2 years.

I'm not so upset Burrell's leaving as I am at Amaro jumping the gun, overpaying an older right Ibanez while sacrificing our #1 pick. The backbone of the team was built through the draft so I'm sure how anyone could say "who cares about our first round pick"

Welcome to the reign of Wade Jr.  Except it will be worse since Arbuckle isn't here to stress the farm system.

So JC Romero was suspended for 50 games for using a banned substance. He should be nice and fresh come the 2009 playoffs.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

well we all knew for a while now that no 2 year deal was going to happen

if Burrell had accepted arbitration in 09 and ended up getting $15-$16 million, the same situation would exist in 2010. The Phillies would then have to decide on offering Burrell arbitration again. If they decide not to, it is likely that a comparable replacement will cost more than $15 million for the next 2 years

they can make up that 1st rd choice they lost with the $5 million it would of cost to keep Burrell and go above slot to sign some young players. you can argue it either way as being a good or a bad move based off your stance on Ibanez

did you guys even read the article?

Selig is a joke. This will be overturned.

My understanding from the article is that the arbitration hearing was already held (during the World Series), and this is the final decision, barring some kind of litigation.

Here's the philly.com article.
