That's not really in their control though. More likely they are giving away home ice.

Briere on the powerplay.  Mara got hurt blockig the puck, managed to get up to interfere with his own goalie, giving Danny boy the open net.

they'll win the next two, get the #4 seed and face Carolina.  The Devils are locked into the #3 seed now and don't need the game Sunday...

That first goal was a horrendous screwup by the refs.  Should have been blown dead.

THe Flyers, though, had 59 minutes to get it back and never did it.  Loss is on them.

Win or lose that was the best effort I've seen out of this bunch in months.  They played their farging asses off for 50 minutes and kept the heat on the Rags the whole time.

They lost, yes, but I was more than happy with the effort.

Play like that in the playoffs and they'll win more than they'll lose.

PS: I was watching the MTL/BOS game at the same time.  That shtein was nutty.  It was like a George Carlin/throw whiskey and PCP into a ring and see what happens sort of game.

According to a source familiar with negotiations involving the NHL, players, and the Bruins, Boston likely will host either the Washington Capitals or the Philadelphia Flyers. It has long been rumored that the next Jan. 1 game would include a Canadian-based team, with the Montreal Canadiens the probable partner for a game in the Hub of Hockey.

But a number of sources indicated it is highly unlikely the Habs will be part of the show, and the likely partner will be the Capitals, whose playoff-bound roster includes superstar winger Alexander Ovechkin, the game's most exciting player and No. 1 goal scorer the last two seasons.

With the MLB free preview, the Flyers game is free for out of towners.  Lots of Flyers fans in Nassau today.  If Carolina beats the Devils (and they're losing right now), the Flyers will not face the Penguins in the first round...
