QuoteReports out of Philadelphia indicate that the Flyers may be willing to swap top prospect James van Riemsdyk for Thrashers G Kari Lehtonen.  If the deal was actually on the table, the Thrashers would surely have to jump on it.

i still wouldnt do it.  Lehtonen is consistently injured, and doesnt wow.  shtein, Nitty has better #'s.

If you get Bouwmeester, you then pair 2-3 lines of scoring depth with 3 really good to great defenders in Bouwmeester, Kimmo, and Couburn....and a pretty good young guy in Parent.

All it would take is Niitty getting a little hot come playoff time and they could very easily at least get to the cup. At that point you just hope they don't bend over and take it up the ass from the Red Wings or Sharks.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

lehtonen is legit but he does have serious injury concerns...i wouldnt be mad at that deal just because reemsdyke is a bum but id much rather have bouwmeester

Late push for Bouwmeester

Jay Bouwmeester | Panthers | Interested: Kings? Blue Jackets? Penguins? Maple Leafs? Bruins? Canucks? Flyers? Senators? Rangers? Devils? Canadiens? Oilers? Ducks?

The Flyers have offered F Joffrey Lupul and prospect James vanRiemsdyk to the Panthers for D Jay Bouwmeester, according to the Edmonton Sun.

Florida GM Jacques Martin told the Camden Courier-Post last week that he was in Philadelphia because his team had the night off, but his scouting visit to the Wachovia Center to watch the Kings play the Flyers combined with his plans to return Friday to watch the Canadiens play the Flyers increased speculation that Bouwmeester could be headed to Philly.

Philadelphia is so close to the salary cap that it would need to send players making at least as much as Bouwmeester is owed for the rest of this season on his $4.875M contract, and the Courier Post suggested names such as Lupul and Ds Matt Carle and Braydon Coburn.

Teams hoping to pry Bouwmeester from the Panthers will need to be creative and prepared to blow away Martin.

"I think the priority for us right now is to improve our club, to make the playoffs this year and I don't want to disturb that," Martin told The Miami Herald.

Failed contract talks make it clear that Bouwmeester wants to test the free agent market, but Martin told The Herald it will take an offer that provides immediate help to obtain the talented, puck-moving blue-liner.

"For now, we'll go forward with Jay in our lineup, if we can't get something that helps us now," Martin told The Herald.

ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun previously reported that the Bouwmeester's camp rejected a multiyear deal in the ballpark of $6.5 million a season.

Boston beat up on their own division for a while and have come back down to earth a bit lately. I think they've won something like 4 out of their last 12 or some number like that. Not exactly playing dominating hockey.

NJ has been playing well, and the better Marty is scary, especially for the Flyers...

But at this point, any of the top 5 teams in the East could make the cup. That includes the Flyers who are a deep scoring team and, if they were able to make the trade happen, could end up with the best overall defense in the conference.

Edit-Boston has won 3 of their last 10, my bad.

Flyers vs competition inferrior to them = bad

The most frustrating part of watching them play is they seem to find ways to play down to competition. Good times.
