Sandberg never won anything.  Plus, the Phillies had Juan Samuel, Randy Ready, and Mickey Morandini.

sanberg is easy to say now because he ended up being a hall of famer...but if you go back to that time sandberg was a 20th round pick...floyd was a top 5 overall pick who they invested milions of dollars in and at least they got a few (albeit bad ones) years out of dejesus.....freddie garcia gave them a few minutes


time will tell but if floyd keeps up what he did this year for another decade or so he eclipses sandberg

Floyd might end up dead in a car wreck next week.  On the other hand he might go on and win 250 games in the Majors.  Either way the deal would still be a tremendous failure on the Phillies' part.  Not only did Garcia lie to the Phillies, they actually allowed him to come to Philly without going through an extensive physical.  I don't blame Garcia, though.  He basically stole 10 million dollars and got away scot free.

Floyd wasn't even the best player we gave up in that deal.  2008 Floyd=2007 Kendrick.  He will be back in the minors mid way through next year.
