Gotta love a flame war about a fundamentally flawed premise.

The NFL has been giving a seminar to rookies for years.

Coaches and current and former players from around the NFL take time to address the incoming class of rookies during the four-day meeting. Everything from player conduct, finances, player benefits, dealing with the media and life skills are covered.

The NFLPA has gone further and tried to provide more specific guidance on investments, specifically the 401k and such.  They are having real problems with players who come to the union destitute, and the current players don't want to help the old guys.

i have enough friends and if i needed more or better ones id pay them directly to play with me like my parents did when i was young

but keep on being ignorant i really dont care...we all should be out there and giving our time money or resources to help others...the reasons are irrelevant

I stopped reading after this. If you don't think that helping out a friend's wife improves your relationship with that friend (or if you're saying that you don't care about strengthening your relationships with your friends) then you're clearly looking at the world through much farging different glasses than I am.

i dont calculate things like that...apparently you do...i would hope my friendship with the person wouldnt change regardless of what i gave (or didnt give)

sometime in the future men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and clearly this is a case of me proactively donating money to save my own life
