there is simply no reasonable defense for allowing citizens to own assault rifles

farg the NRA

they could disband tomorrow and the United States would never come take our shotguns and pistols away from us.

they do offer good gun safety courses though, I'll give 'em that.
and if you want a list of likely KKK members, you could start with the NRA membership rolls and pare back from that..you'd get most of 'em

but Iraq might invade the US

oh I love the "to defend us against our own government" argument best

like AR15s are gonna save the people of Lubbock from bombs...gimme a farging break
if the U.S. government wars against its own people (using what troops, I'm not sure...American troops attacking their own lands?  come on...) then side arms aren't gonna do shtein

Protecting us from actual governmental attack isn't really the point now is it? We have a right, as citizens, defined from the first second of this country's life to arm ourselves. The wording of the right was to allow us to protect what was ours from a government trying to take it, but one way or another the NRA is just about the only organization protecting a right that should be granted to everyone based on the very document that founded the nation.

And besides, just because the US Army could flatten our homes at will we should lie down and accept that and hand over our rights in the process? I don't see the big bad Army stopping little untrained, under-armed iceholes in Iraq from fighting back... but give us our central air and SUVs and we're willing to accept anything.

You really think without the NRA that the U.S. is gonna come take your shotguns rifles and handguns?
You really think we need AR 15s?

Gimme a break.
farg the NRA.  Neither liberals nor conservatives want to give up their guns and we hardly need the NRA and their farged up "everyone should be armed to the teeth" garbage.

You shouldn't pick and choose the rights that you defend. But mostly, you shouldn't get into internet fights. Instead, you should just understand that the internet is serious business.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Organizations that defend the Bill of Rights should be applauded and supported even if their stances occasionally provide us with reasons to dislike them or question their motives.

I'm not crazy about all of the ACLU's activities, but like rjs said, we have enough political whores trying to steal away with our liberties as it is, so it's nice that there's still a few organizations going who at least offer occasional resistance (however impotent that resistance might be).

I've never considered the idea that the NRA and the ACLU are sibling organizations in any way.

Yeah, strange when you think about it. Painful if you dwell on it.
