Which players will fool you?

Every year, there is at least two players that really stand out for this team: There is the guy that we all seem to be convinced will be a very good player and completely shteins the bed, and there is the guy that we'd all assumed was weak and/or given up for dead that plays really well and makes a positive impact.

In 2007, the first guy could be Jevon Kearse and the second could be Broderick Bunkley.

So, the goal here is to name your predictions for the 2008 season on these two guys:

1. The guy who really shteins the bed.
2. The guy who raises some eyebrows with his good play.

My predictions as of today:
1. Juqua Thomas
2. Stewart Bradley

Saying that Juqua Thomas will shtein the bed isn't really fair. He's nothing but a situational rush end who will fall flat on his face if he's asked to play a lot and everyone knows it.

I would actually say that Reggie Brown was the biggest bed-shteinter this year, though at least he contributed SOMETHING.

I had a lot of options for #1: Omar Gaither, Lito Sheppard, Brent Celek, Donovan McNabb...

Are you thinking they'll move Herremans back to tackle? If so, he's another candidate for shteinting the bed.

i wouldnt be surprised if they did that but that wasnt in my thought process...i just think mjg straight up beats herremans out in camp...what happens with todd after that who knows

1. The guy who really shteins the bed: Brent Celek - I like him... but I can't shake the feeling that he's just "a guy" and when he's handed the starting TE spot next season (which we all know he will) he'll prove just that.

2. The guy who raises some eyebrows with his good play: Chris Gocong - He's basically just completed his rookie season at SAM and his play has been solid. Another year in the system, he can react more than think and he steps his play up.

you can react all you want but you still have to get to the ball (see barry gardner)...gocong has neither the burst quickness speed or power to do so...

also theres a chance that gocong doesnt even start at lb next year...but i suppose thats what would make him a true breakout player...

Ha! Knew you'd be the 1st to answer that...

I'm not as down on Gocong as you are. We haven't been raped by opposing TE's (other than the 1st time against Witten) and our run D has been pretty good. He's been a contributor to that. I've seen him make plays in the backfield... and I've seen him lose his feet which made him miss a play. I think he'll get better ... and yeah, the fact that no one really expects anything from him would be what fools folks if he has a good year.

Eskin, Ekert, Douglas and I think it was Diddinger (?) were all talking before the game yesterday and all agreed Herremans would be gone next year

I agree with most of this, although I don't think Gocong was downfield covering TEs all game long like Carlos Emmons did when he was here.

Look gocong is vanilla as shtein but he's on the team and he's not going anywhere so can we please stop arguing about whether he's below average, slightly below average or just plain average? We all agree that he isn't a star or anything close but he's about the most boring topic of conversation I can think of.
