QuoteWhat, exactly, those "nitty-grittys" entail has not been explained. But while the contract is likely to get straightened out and become official sooner rather than later, the team's failure to get the contract completed is already having consequences.

Per Somers, the Cardinals signed long snapper Nathan Hodel to a four-year deal because they thought the Fitzgerald contract was done, and that the new Fitzgerald deal would give them enough cap space to sign Hodel. But the Fitzgerald holdup put them in a position where they didn't have the cap space, so the Cardinals released receiver Sean Morey.

Graves said the Cardinals plan to re-sign Morey when Fitzgerald's contract becomes official within the next few days, and if they do, this snafu won't have caused the Cardinals any problems. But it's also possible that Morey will end up signing with another team, and that the Cardinals will then have lost a valuable member of their special teams.

GET MOREY!

GET MOREY FOR LESS!

QB Eagles

Just to pour some gas on the flames of idiotic conjecture:

QuoteIn an appearance Tuesday on ESPN's First Take, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson said he remains undecided about his future with the team.

"I want to continue my career wherever I have the opportunity to win a playoff game and get to the Super Bowl. That's where I want to be," Johnson said.

When asked if that described his situation in Cincinnati, Johnson said: "I'm not sure. I have no idea."

Johnson also said he wasn't sure if he wanted to return to the Bengals, saying he was "undecided." He said he hasn't spoken with anyone from the Bengals this offseason.

Johnson, who finished with a single-season franchise-record 1,440 receiving yards, has had six consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards. He is under contract with the Bengals through 2011 after signing a $35.5 million extension in April 2006.

However, Johnson has been outspoken this offseason about his unhappiness with the situation in Cincinnati.

Coach Marvin Lewis has said repeatedly this offseason that the Bengals have no plans to trade Johnson. "There will be no trade of Chad Johnson. Repeat it again," he said in January.

Despite his franchise-record yardage total in 2007, Johnson said he wasn't happy with his performance.

"I consider it a bad year for me because I had some inconsistencies myself," he said.

"I just didn't play well. I didn't play well at all."

Johnson also acknowledged an incident did occur in the locker room during a 2006 playoff game but denied that he threw a punch at coach Lewis.

"There were no punches thrown. Anything of that nature I would have been released. I would have been cut right away," he said.

"Coach Lewis had to restrain me. That's as far as it went."

Here some more:

Chad Johnson said on NFL Network's Total Access that he doesn't want a pay raise from the Bengals.
Johnson said that "it's always about money," but indicated that's not what he wants from the Bengals. He said what he wants is a "change of scenery." It sounds like he's pulling for a trade, then to get a new contract from his new team. That just isn't likely to happen with the cap hit the Bengals would take.

The BIGSTUD

Strange that after I removed Chad Johnson from the topic title, Chad starts running his mouth again. Then all of Detroit comes out and talks about how Roy Will is not up for trade.

Maybe this theory holds some water. Give me a WR that you don't want under any circumstances.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

CJ was on NFL Network last night and when talking Bengals, he wanted to change the subject and said something like, "I know they say the grass ain't always greener on the other side... but I got my water hose... and I got my seeds.  I'm gonna make my grass greener."
