While other rebuilding teams have been giving away their stars, it appears that the 76ers are maintaining a higher standard with point guard Andre Miller. They win either way: If Cleveland (with help of a third team) or another suitor is willing to meet their price, then they'll move him; otherwise, they'll be happy to keep him and make a run at the playoffs, as the Sixers (23-30) are tied with Atlanta for the final spot in the East.

and I cant see why Cleveland wouldnt go after Andre for a high price with the way he is playing. They need a PG in the worst way to make any kind of serious run this year with Boston in the mix now

Gibson is not a good PG where he can put the rock on the floor and dish it, Hughes is a SG, and Snow needs to hang up his chuck T's...why not

the problem is that cleveland has nothing to offer...i mean other than lebron what would you want off that team

Cleveland has nothing. Drew Gooden, but I doubt they'd trade him. I wouldn't even want him but he'd help the most. Then Ira Newble has an expiring for like $3.5M. Cleveland's picks are going to be irrelevant so it almost has to be a 3 way trade to get a fair deal.

Why wouldnt you want him? 6'10, 26 years old--could help out alot

Another possibility to make it work is giving up Reggie Evans (who is playing well now) for a future protected 1st rd pick. This helps Cleveland because Varejao is still hurt

So you could have Gooden, Newble, Dwayne Jones, Devin Brown and Cleveland's 2008 first-round pick plus a future protected first-round pick for A. Miller, R. Evans and Amundson.

The 76ers and coach Maurice Cheeks are closing in on a contract extension. An NBA source said last night that both sides have been in negotiations regarding a new deal, one that appears imminent.

The 76ers and coach Maurice Cheeks have agreed in principle to a contract extension, the team said in a news release today.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Since my arrival, I have been evaluating every aspect of the organization and I believe that coach Cheeks deserves a great deal of credit for developing our players, putting them in a position to succeed and showing improvement every day," team president and general manager Ed Stefanski said. "Coach Cheeks has done a very good job of installing an up-tempo brand of basketball that puts this team in a position to succeed on a nightly basis and we are excited about the future under his direction."
