flyer tickets are harder to get than sixers but sixers are way bigger

so Flyers tickets are harder to get but the Sixers are more popular. That makes sense.

Flyers in the mid 70's were way bigger than the Sixers. I'm really glad to see a retro jersey coming out - I've always had a thought they wouldn't win a cup again until they were in their old orange.  :yay

Flyers fans are rich white folks that buy tickets.  Sixers fans are poor, young black folks from ghettos in and around Philly and cannot afford tickets.

At least, I think that's what we're getting at here.

BTW, we now know why the Flyers won (besides me being buddies with Knuble):

thats a factor but it has more to do with the flyers having a smaller but more fantatical fanbase...thus most seats for flyers are held by season ticket holders who use them thus they never hit the open market...public sale of sixer tickets is like 11k....for flyers its like 4k...hence a harder ticket to get even tho the flyers have a smaller base of fans

dont get it twisted flyer fans are better than sixer fans....they travel like crazy...they are more loyal...but the sixers have a much larger base of fans...there are some people who claim they dont like the nba but in general no one dislikes basketball...whereas there are lots of people who hate hockey and tons more who just dont care about it
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

yup. just a frame of reference:

flyers/caps game 1- 101,000 people watching on csn

game 3 had 161,000 and peaked at 247,000 at the end of the game.

there are 4 million people in the area, not sure how many of those have csn, but im willing to be there isnt a flyer/philly sports fan alive that doesnt get csn (who can get it).
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

find the caps numbers lil guy...id be interested to see the comparison

btw found this interesting tidbit on another board

The Caps scored all their goals before this game when Modry was on the ice and 10 of 11 when Jason Smith was on the ice.

also modry is going to let his dad rot for a few more days and not go home until after the series

Unsung hero on D so far is Hatcher.  Sat out a month and steps right in and plays at a playoff level - which is far and away better than his regular season level.

averaged about 72k, peaked at 100k. its farging dc/baltimore, getting people interested outside of the 20k that go is impressive.

On Sean Avery: What would Ron Hextall do?
By Eric McErlain - SportingNews

Like most folks who spent time watching New York Rangers winger Sean Avery come up with a new spin on screening the goaltender, I was more than a bit taken aback.

In just a few trips up and down the ice, everything that hockey fans both love and hate about Avery came together: It was audacious and ridiculous at the same time. And who but Avery would have shown so much disdain for what the hockey world thought about his shenanigans?

Once shock and surprise abated, other considerations surfaced. Given how over-the-top Avery's actions were, New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur's reaction seemed restrained. Outside of a few swats with his glove, Brodeur more or less let Avery do his thing unmolested.

Then again, if Avery had broken into the league perhaps 10 or 15 years earlier, might he have elicited a more aggressive response?

In other words, what would Ron Hextall do?

Yes, that Ron Hextall, the goaltender who won the Vezina Trophy and the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP in the same season, 1986-87, with the Philadelphia Flyers. If it hadn't been for Luc Robitaille scoring 46 goals in his rookie season with the Los Angeles Kings, Hextall might have gotten the Calder too.

It's hard to imagine any scenario in which Hextall, who was known for protecting his crease as he would his life, wouldn't have busted out some old-school rejoinder to Avery's peculiar on-ice innovation.

These days, Hextall is assistant general manager of the Los Angeles Kings. In addition to his Kings duties, Hextall is general manager of AHL Manchester, the Kings' top affiliate.

Clearly bemused by the situation, Hextall said when he first saw Avery waving his stick in front of Brodeur while facing the goaltender, he couldn't help but ask, "What is going on?"

It was funny, almost laughable what was happening, he said. But it didn't take long for Hextall to see the situation's serious side.

"I know Sean Avery, I know how competitive he is," Hextall said. "But there's the integrity of the game to protect. Most hockey people would say it wasn't the right thing to do."

So, what would Hextall have done? He didn't go into specifics but made it clear a challenge like Avery's wouldn't have gone without an answer.

"Marty Brodeur reacted; of course I would have reacted. Your whole focus at a time like that is, 'I gotta see the puck, I gotta see the puck,' and somebody is taking your sightlines away," he said. "What Brodeur did is what 95 percent of goalies would have done. I imagine Brodeur was as stunned as everybody else."

Does Hextall believe goalies are being abused more frequently than in the past?

"I don't think guys are getting run more often," he said. "There were times when you got run more, and times when you got run less. In '87 I got run like crazy. It got called early, but not during the finals."

Still, he stayed loyal to his former confederates in net: "I enjoy going to watch Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo and Miikka Kiprusoff ... They're sitting ducks, they need to be protected," Hextall said.

When asked what he thought of the playoffs so far, Hextall sounded enthused. After the lockout, he said, it seemed as if the NHL "took some of the battles out of the game, took something out of the playoffs." These playoffs are been different.

"The intensity of the games have been at a real high," Hextall said. "The intensity and the battle thus far ... The reffing hasn't been as strict and I love it."

I could agree with that, but really the whole team has been doing what they need to to win. I was worried that a team with seven 20+ goal scorers wouldn't have anyone to lean on offensively, but the that hasn't been an issue. Briere and Prospal have led the charge but Richards, Carter and Knuble have been doing their thing too. They are fun to watch right now.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

no they split them up, i just put the 2 together. the ratings were better in dc than bodymore, obviously. i dont forsee a predominately black city getting a large number of people to watch a hockey game.

game 2 had just under 1 million people watching, but i dont know how many were in philly/dc area. it was up against the masters, though.
