The defense looked lost out there a lot. This might turn into a long season and my liver is not looking forward to all the overtime!

The BIGSTUD

Considine's hit tonight was a disgraceful effort, but outside of that he played fine tonight. Am I concerned about him getting run over? Yes, but tonight he was fine. The linebackers outside of Spikes were a much bigger problem than Considine was tonight. It wasn't even close.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Colt Brennan getting some love from Madden as Ilaoa gets a few runs.  Too bad nobody gets to see his games except Don Ho....

now why wouldn't you stay up until 3:30 AM EST to watch Colt play?  well maybe 4:30 AM with all the passing Hawaii does, 4+ hour games are not anything unusual around here.

No, he wasn't fine.  He was horrendous.  He's a liability in the defensive backfield.  If you don't have a strong safety who can be a force in the run game, you have serious trouble.  The Eagles have serious trouble at the position.

As for the linebackers, Spikes played well.  Gaither's head was on a swivel and Gocong was an absolute train wreck.

They'll be fine against lesser teams, but again, lesser teams don't get to the Super Bowl and the Super Bowl is supposed to be the goal for this team.   Judging how they got steamrolled (again) in the first half, I'd say they're about as far from being a Super Bowl contender as it gets at least defensively.

cj gaddis era starts NOW

last nights game didnt really bother me...for one it was preseason and they played against a superior afc team...the eagles dont match up with the steelers well at all and simply arent as good

the maddening thing is that they are getting exposed in the exact areas predicted here for going on two years...the second gocong was drafted you knew it was a mess and considine has always been at best a special teamer...why can an idiot like me see these things so easily and a pro football coach/gm cant

QuoteChris Gocong is still a project, as expected. He missed some tackles in the open field. He is still learning angles and pursuit and the nuances of the position. I think teams are going to go at him in the passing game. He will get better.

farging disgusting.  I especially love the last bit of spin.  He'll get better?  Wow.  That's comforting considering I don't see any possible way he can get any worse.

I'll focus on the positives:

Sheldon and Lito looked very good.

Bunkley so far looks the the real deal against other teams #1's

Spikes eats babies

McNabb really has good pocket presence, but he needed to use the TE's more often

Jason Avant has amazing hands, he catches almost everything thrown his way.  I'm even more impressed when he has the ball and how many guys it seems to take him down.

Kolb is improving from the last game.

Dawkins hit the field, he did seem a little tenative but i know he'll be full speed Sept 9th

Tony Hunt is exactly what i thought he is, a friggin train.  Gotta love how he was powering thru Steelers after the first hit.

he doesnt have the tools to be a linebacker...he cant run with anyone cant tackle at this level and has no stand out attribute...other than i suppose hes smart...

but you can learn how to play the position for the next decade however if you dont have the physical skill set to play a particular position it doesnt matter how much you know you are not gonna be able to get by

My observations:

1.  This better be the last year of JJ.  Any young def. coordinators we can lure away with all Lurie's money?

2.  I will give Gocong the benefit of the doubt.  He is playing a new position and it is still early.  Too soon for Bradley but can go to him if the season gets away from them.  Need to put Spikes in the middle and put Gaither back at OLB.

3.  Considine.  Looked good on the blitz but can't tackle.  So we go from a safety who can't cover to one who can't tackle.  Isn't Parrish from the 49er's available?  I hate to take a re-tread but I don't know if Gaddis is ready and not sure Mikell is worth more than starting part time.  Any other available safeties?

4.  I thought Buck ran strong tonight.  I think Westbrook, Buckhalter and Hunt can be a good running backfield.  If Andy ever calls their number.
