Hey, it's a good TV show. I don't get all worked up about Dickens, either. Steinbeck or even Dos Passos would probably be a better comparison.

Dickens makes Simon look like Mother Goose.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

is there anything better than some old school dickens books after a fresh herbal meal at some out of the way counter-culture restaurant?

Season 3 ending montage when Avon is in court and Marlo and Chris walk in. Great segue scene.

that's one of the great skills of the show.  carcetti is gradually introduced, just like marlo.  they don't just start a season and it's a total gear change.

well except maybe season 2.  so many whites.

Polishing off the series. Seasons 1-4 were great. Season 5 was pretty weak; the circles in which the characters moved got a little too incestuous, and the whole cooked-up serial killer angle seemed to really go against the reality feel that made the show stand out from the pack.

The serial killer stuff took McNultey pretty much out of the picture far as I was concerned. I watched the paths taken by the 4 youngsters, especially Michael who eventually kills cold blooded and brutal enforcer Snoops. It was amazing the man he became when he was more or less just trying to do the right thing and take care of his little brother. I liked the war between Marlo and Omar, and was shocked when Omar was taken out by a kid. I also liked seeing Simons take on how the economy effects journalism, more so newspapers, and the world of the homeless in Baltimore.

Couldn't agree more. One of the things I didn't like about the Sopranos was how they'd suddenly throw a prominent character into the story. Like when they started season 4 off with adding Buscemi into the mix. The whole thing just felt too forced.

Here's a great scene from season 3, when Bodie introduces himself to Marlo. The awkwardness Bodie shows when he approaches Marlo and Marlo's reaction are incredible:

I'm watching season 5, it's the episode when lester goes with McNulty to the homeless community under the bridge to talk to some of the guys.  mcnulty goes to some guys around a fire and asks a guy if his dog bites.  I'm pretty damn sure that the guy he is talking to was one of the dockworkers in season 2.  i think they were trying to show how far some of those guys fell because of the union being busted.
