ice grillin you

i disagree about myers pissing the game away...he didnt come in with a lead and lose it like he did tues...like sarge pointed out he pitched the night before as well and two innings at that

im not saying the phils need to double digit every night but you cant be throwing up one run in 11 innings in the last week and a half of a playoff race against a team like the cardinals...if its jake peavy acceptable last night not acceptable
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

They didn't have a hit the entire night when someone was on 2nd or 3rd.  How is that not the offense's fault?

The hitters are unmotivated because they're convinced the pitching staff or managerial moves would undo anything they'd accomplish, obviously.

Once in a while you need the pitching staff to throw a shutout to win.

If Myers hadn't pissed another game away the Phillies would have had a decent shot to win.

Those are the two statements I made.  Which of those was incorrect, Sassy?

Take your pick.  ;)

Blaming the offense for coming up short last night is ridiculous because they've pounded the snot out of the ball all year long.  They have more come-from-behind wins than any other team in MLB at this point.  You can't come from behind in games without offensive firepower and they have it in spades.  It's unrealistic to expect a team to produce runs in bunches night after night but is it really so unrealistic to expect a pitching staff to blank another team on occasion, especially on the rare occasion when the offense isn't doing much?

I don't think so.

The pitching is horrendous night after night - but sure, let's blame the offense for losing a game on the rare occasion when the pitching staff only gives up two runs.

This team was assembled with the intention of being some sort of offensive jaugernaut.  And while no team will put 12 across the plate every night, this team has no excuse to not put up at least 3 runs against damn near every pitcher in mlb.

And it's a real waste when the pitching staff goes out and exceeds expectations like they did yesterday and the offense shteins the bed.

the offense has been carrying the pitching all year...this should not be a surprise to anyone...so now with a week left in the season the offense is not expected to score two runs in a game?

its precisely the games where they get a quality start that they should be winning

i mean what game do you blame on the offense if it isnt a 2-1 game...one where they lose 11-10 because they offense couldnt put up that 12th run??

I refuse to blame this offense when they lose a tight low scoring game.  They've bailed the pitching staff out so many farging times this year it's ridiculous.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I can.  Because when the pitching staff is pitching better than they usually do (which they have for the last 2 games) then you can't blame them.

The Phillies are currently ranked 26th in MLB in team era with 4.83.  So when they go out there and throw 20 innings and only give up 3 runs they are by far playing above their abilities and it's only a matter of time before they return to their normal ways.

Pitching doesn't lose a game that's tied at 1 going into extra innings.  Lack of execution on offense does.  I am not trying to defend this pitching staff at all.  They are what they are, and they suck.  And when they give up 9 runs in a game then they aren't even pitching up to their "level" and deserve to be bashed.

But this team wasn't built around pitching.  It was built around offense.  So when the pitching staff gives up 4-5-6 runs a game, I don't get pissed off about it because that's what the stats say they are supposed to do.  Their pitching sucks but I can't blame them for sucking.  I can only blame management for sending them out on the field.

The offense on the other hand, is 2nd in MLB in runs scored averaging 5.5 a game.  So when they go out and score 4-5-6 runs a game, they are doing their job.  When they score 1 run in a game, they aren't doing their job and last night was a perfect example of that.

Going to the a Phil's game when they are here in D.C. Who is pitching Friday, Saturday, and Sunday?
