Whatever Billy Beane Jr.

Bourn is going to be good. Off the sack.

by the way - MIL traded for Linebrink and had to give up 3 minor league pitchers

Ha! That would be hilarious if they got rid of Burrell for anything. Just unloading his salary would make things much easier for the Phils in terms of re-signing Rowand if they want to try and being players this off-season for any talent that may be available.

However, Burrell is playing pretty well right now. He walks a lot and has show some pop at the plate as of late. I don't think that's worth keeping him on for another year if the Phils have the opportunity to deal him to a team that would take all or most of his salary though. If Helms continues to play well they can rotate Nunez in there for D at 3rd, and if they could get rid of Burrell I wouldn't mind a Dobbs/Bourn platoon in left field.

But, as the deadline approaches, it seems more and more like the Phils biggest acquisition will be getting Myers back. Which, I think, is still huge if he can continue what he was doing before he went on the DL. There probably isn't anyone on the market that could be had long term that could match the talent Myers has. And if Phreak is right that the only player the Phils are talking about trading is Burrell, then I think the Phils are feeling that they are going to have to win predominantly with what they got.

He might, but he doesn't fit here. Rollins is leading off for the next 5 years. Utley and Howard are 3/4. Do you want another left handed hitter in there, especially one that isn't that good?

Bourn's stock is kind of high now. Get you can for him and pick up a marginal 5th starter that probably won't be too much better than Kyle Kendrick.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Yes, I want him in there.

Rollins - S
Victorino - S
Utley - L
Howard - L
Rowand - R
3B who isn't Helms - R
Bourn - L
Ruiz - R

That could switch up, but whatever. I want Bourn in LF. Or in CF once they show they're too cheap to retain Rowand. Someone on the Phils MB pointed out that Aaron is gonna get paid despite the guys Ed pointed out as being FA's because Garry Matthews Jr got 5/50M last year. Rowand is better than him.

Per MLB.com trade rumors:

QuotePhillies assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. watched prospect Kevin Slowey pitch for Triple-A Rochester on Saturday. The Phillies need an arm, and the Twins may be interested in Pat Burrell. The 30-year-old left fielder started off the season slow, but is batting .404 in July and has 12 home runs this season.

Sounds fine to me. I'd get it done just for salary purposes and to get Dobbs and Bourn some more playing time, regardless of whether Slowey is any good or not.

The Twins would make the Phils pay 75% of that contract...

Meanwhile, Myers made another rehab start tonight in Clearwater.  1 IP, 1 K and an infield single given up

MDS

Will it take Bourn playing everyday for you lower middle class dolts to realize that he's mediocre?

Slowey is real good. I was talking to someone here about going to minor league games and how there's no point going to Red Wings games (I live in Rochester) because they're all the Twins' rejects, except maybe two or three. I was looking at their stats about a month and had no idea who this guy was but he had real good numbers, then I saw he was already on the Twins. It would probably be a real good deal for the Fils.

I don't think he's anything special right now, but I think he can do at least as good of a job as Burrell with more speed and better defense. However, if Ed is right and the Twins would require the Phils to pick up 3/4ths of the remaining K for Burrell, it may not be worth it considering Burrell has been playing much better as of late.

I'd do it if the Phils only had to pick up 1/2. Even then it would be something to think about considering whether Slowey could contribute this season or not.

Pipe down, Wheels.

Burrell for anyone. Do it.

Then Bourn plays more. Phreak is happy and MDS is proven wrong. Win-win.

i have no idea why mds is even referencing bourns hitting...he doesnt have to be a great hitter to contribute...good obp steal a shteinload of bases...play great d...score a ton of runs and hell be fine...im not even saying he can do that as a full time starter in the majors but to say he cant hit is 1. being clueless cause with about 100 career ab's no one knows right now and 2. its irrelevant
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Seabiscuit36

That sounds like a good deal for the phils even if they have to pay Burrells contract.

King Cole is having a tough night so far, only 2 runs though, he's battling.

True. And one good thing about Bourn is that in his limited plate appearances he has shown patience and a willingness to walk knowing that he can pretty much steal a bag at will if he wants to. As long as Bourn just gets on base he will give pitchers fits and score a lot of runs. Plus he can track down anything coming his way and can afford to have bad jumps and still make some catches look routine.

Burrell likes to walk now and shows patience; but too bad a cripple can run faster than him.

Cole had a decent night; He went 7 innings and struck out 6. It is not great by his standards but he is in line for the win and got outs when he needed and didn't allow a ton of baserunners.
