Most use foreign crab and lots of filler.  Real Chesepeake crabcake is hard to find.

i want my seafood served to me by some surly crusty voiced waitress from dundalk who isnt getting my beam and cokes filled fast enough because shes in the parking lot on her fourth smoke break since i arrived

:-D :-D Yeah, just watch out she doesn't cough on you're food bringing it out, or stick her nicotine laden thumb on the top of the plate while she's serving you.

No, I'm practical. Why pay upwards of 40 bucks for a steak when you can buy one and cook it for a third of the price? Same with seafood.

because i can

because i enjoy the idea of going out for a nice dinner

because i like my food cooked for and served to me

Yup. I know for a fact that 80% or more of the Crabs served in my area are from the Carolina's. They use fish in their pots, and the crabs taste like it. I've even seen crab meat in some markets from friggen' New Zealand.

My mom's recipe for crab cakes is what I use and it's pretty damn good. No filler, that would have been like sacrilege.

This time of year, you get blue crab from louisiana.

To each his own, man. I have a little different perspective on it.

Yeah, they came back pretty quick from the hurricane down there. I would have thought their seafood industry would be hurting a lot worse than it was.

I'm not saying I don't eat out at all. I did eat a crab cake platter at the Moose lodge last week. It was a 12 dollar special, two cakes and two sides. The cakes weren't overly big, but they were really good. The cook is an old shore gal. She's got a real good recipe. Also, 12 bucks is more like my price range.

sadly i can, Chesapeake crabs have a different flavor.  I'm not saying i dont eat crabs from other states, but there is a reason why Chesapeake Crabs are lauded worldwide

With that comment, I'm going to say you've never had a Wye River crab or Chester River crab. It's not as much the crab itself as it is the bait. Maryland potters and trot liners use chicken neck, bull lip, or eel. Down south they use fish. I'm shore that there are some potters in MD. using fish, but I've never seen it.

Besides, I thought you didn't even like crab?

go to timbuktu whose crabcakes are almost universally known as the best around and tell me they arent better than anything youve ever had...and they dont use maryland crab

I love picking crabs till i hit about 10 or so and my fingers are wrinkled, then you cut it open.  I make a homemade crab dippin sauce, its delicous.
