Update on McGahee's contract:

Quote
McGAHEE DEAL:  SEVEN YEARS, $40.12 MILLION

We're told that the Ravens and running back Willis McGahee are very close to agreeing on a seven-year deal worth $40.12 million.

As we previously explained, McGahee will receive $7.5 million to sign, an initial option bonus of $6 million, and a second option bonus of $1.5 million.  The salaries are $595,000 in 2007, $605,000 in 2008, $620,000 in 2009, $3.6 million in 2010, $6.0 million in 2011, $6.5 million in 2012, and $7.2 million in 2013.

Since McGahee was due to earn $2.155 million in 2007, the deal is essentially a six-year extension worth $37.965 million.

If the Ravens cut McGahee before the back-end salaries kick in, he will earn a total of $20.42 million over four years.

He can't sign until Saturday anyway, so fine.

I have mixed feelings about him.  On one hand, he's definitely better than Baskett/Avant/Lewis... but on the other hand, he couldn't push an elderly Isaac Bruce out of the Rams' lineup last year, and he's certainly not in the same realm of playmaking ability as is Donte'.

Anyone catch Schefter on Eagles Live?

I can't listen to it at work, but a buddy told me that Schefter says the Birds seriously want Donnie Edwards.

Said that it seems either Corey Dillon or Chris Brown will be an Eagle.

The Eagles are looking to go DB in round one, and that they love Michael Bush out of Louisville.....

The Eagles will get to be a lot more active in the next 24-48 hours of FA.

The BIGSTUD

He can't sign, he doesn't even have an agent yet.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

MURP

sign him.    The WR's need SOME SORT of fricken improvement and it isnt coming in the draft.

The BIGSTUD

I'd rather get one in the draft to be honest. Curtis is average.

yeah well you would be so lucky to have Andy Reid even draft an average WR.

Not excited about Curtis.  I've watched him her in St. Louis plenty.  Moments of flash, followed by days or weeks of averageness.

He is nothing special.
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

YES HE CAN. Read before you post. He does not need an agent to sign a deal. He'd be stupid to do without an agent, but he can do it.

The Eagles have been known to have guys address the media to say how much they enjoyed their visit, even if they haven't signed.

Plus, they could always agree in principle with Curtis and then finalize the paperwork on Saturday.
