Good point.  Also, Baskett's tall, so he'd be a natural for two TE sets.  Or, they could just bring back Andy Thorn.

BigEd76

Or they could draft Greg Olsen at 26

Eric Johnson to Saints, Eagles interested in Donnie Edwards, Kevin Curtis is mildly retarded

Very little of the article is new news, but it does mean that Curtis won't be able to sign anywhere until March 10... and it also takes away a possible FA insurance possibility if the Eagles truly are looking to trade L.J.

Not ture. Curtis can't get an agent until the 10th, he can negotiate on his own behalf, and if he so chooses, make a deal.

Quote
No free agent has engaged in more bizarre behavior than St. Louis' free-agent wide receiver Kevin Curtis.
At a time when Curtis had lucrative offers from the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, and considerable interest from the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants, the wide receiver fired his agent, Tom Condon, one of the league's most notorious power brokers.

Curtis is expected to hire the Tollner cousins, Bruce and Ryan, which he has not done yet, nor can he. Under the NFL Players Association guidelines, a player must wait five days from the time he fires an agent until the time he hires another. Using those rules, Curtis could not hire the Tollers before March 10. If and when he does, the Tollners will represent Curtis well.

But in the interim, Curtis is conducting business as usual, spending today in New York, visiting with Giants officials, whom he was supposed to meet with the night of March 5 before he decided to return to his home in Utah. (The mormon card???)

Those who know Curtis say he would prefer to play for a West Coast team. Problem is, the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers haven't shown any interest in him. And teams that have dealt with Curtis over the past week have thought his judgment and actions awkward at best.

It's hard to believe Curtis is going to get more money by switching agents. But those who know him say money has not been the driving force behind these decisions. It is the unpredictable behavior of an indecisive wide receiver struggling to figure out where he wants to continue his football career.

This dude may just be foolish enough to try to do a deal by himself...

The LJ/Briggs thing sounds like wild speculation to me. If the Bears were that hot for a TE who is established, why not just grab McMichael who has better stats than LJ over about the same period of time, and is a better blocker? They could keep Briggs this way as well, and sure, they'd have to pay McMichael, but LJ wants a new deal as well...

SD or anyone else with Sirius.....did you hear anything about an LJ/2nd-rd pick to Chicago for Briggs rumor/idea?  ???

I just put it on, I'll report if I hear anything.

I like getting Briggs but think we're giving up too much.

Damn... the Ravens made out like bandits.  Good deal for them.

either way tis a good deal for the ravens...i know as eagle fans we arent used to a team doing this but they are going for a superbowl THIS year they needed a rb bad and they went out and got a very good one

plus they are going to get a third for losing adalius thomas and the seventh is a throw away pick...they gave up very little

BigEd76

We're not used to the Eagles trading a 3rd-round pick for a need position player with 1 year remaining that's represented by Rosenhaus?

ice grillin you

no not used to going out and getting players to win a superbowl...stallworth made the eagle wide recievers not embarrassing...mcgahee makes the ravens team superbowl worthy

if youre not gonna resign the player then...

3rd rounder for a one year superbowl run = worth it
3rd rounder for one good year of wr's = not worth it

ha!

Zanshin

Don't get me wrong-- it's a good deal for the Ravens-- but McGahee is overrated a bit; and they'll have to pay through the nose to re-sign him.

SD_Eagle5

McGahee was traded for a 3rd and 7th this season and a 3rd next season.

McGAHEE TRADE HINGES ON NEW DEAL

We were caught up in some day-job stuff earlier today, and we're catching up on the flow of the NFL info.

Here's what we know about the McGahee deal, plenty of which is already reported elsewhere.  The Ravens sent a third-round pick and a seventh-round pick in 2007 and a third round pick in 2008.  The deal hinges on the Ravens working out a long-term extension with McGahee, and the deadline is March 13.

Stay tuned.

Rams | McMichael signs
Thu, 8 Mar 2007 11:26:00 -0800

StLouisRams.com reports the St. Louis Rams have signed unrestricted free-agent TE Randy McMichael (Dolphins) to a three-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

McMichael's deal wasn't too big.

McMICHAEL AGREES WITH RAMS

A league source tells us that tight end Randy McMichael has agreed to terms with the Rams.  Under the three-year, $11 million deal, McMichael will receive a $3 million signing bonus, and salaries of $1.5 million in 2007, $2.9 million in 2008, and $3.6 million in 2009.

Given that McMichael was due to earn $4 million from the Dolphins this year, the release resulted in $500,000 in extra money for the veteran tight end.
