The 49ers are just throwing around money. Clements was a good pickup, but I'd like to see how that signing bonus plays out. Mike Lewis could be a good fit there if he plays on Clements side and they man-up a lot allowing Lewis to play closer to the Line of Scrimmage.

We didnt have a choice. Anyways, the only other FA we're going to throw that type of cash at is Thomas.

Are you certain about that?  Do you know what other teams were offering Clements?  Dude's a good player and I'm positive he'd fetch a pretty penny from any team that was interested in him.  I just can't see any other team making an offer so big that the 9ers had to outbid with his current contract.

Basically, I think San Fran just did with Clements, the same thing that the Rangers did with A-Rod a few years back.  They outbid themselves.  Only difference is that Nate Clements has never been, nor do I think he will ever be included in any discussion about the top 2 or 3 players in the NFL.  At least in A-Rod's case he was clearly among the very best in the league.

Look at Thomas right now. The Patsies arent letting him out of their building w/o a contract. Thing is, they dont need to pay as much because of a legit chance at a championship. Dork farged up our reputation so guys dont want to come here like they did in the past. So, ya, we overpaid but we really need the talent. Any talent :(

Sgt PSN

I guess the point I'm getting at is that the Niners could have overpaid for Clements, but at a lesser amount and still gotten him locked up.  I have no problem with the concept of overpaying a player if that's what it takes to get that player signed and if you know that said player is going to make a major contribution to the team.

Take Stallworth for example.  Not the greatest reciever in the league.  Probably not even top 10.  But knowing what the Eagles offense can do with him and Brown on the field makes me want the Eagles to overpay for him (within reason) if that's what it takes to keep him.  And I know they can overpay for him and still not make him the highest paid reciever in NFL history at the same time.

TRUCK RATHMAN

sheesh talk about overpaying. we gave lewis $10 mill guaranteed over 6 years  :sly

Nothing is gauranteed in the NFL except that Eagles LB's suck, Andy Reid is fat and Joe Banner is cheap.

Cheap?! What are you talking about, we re-signed Mikell and Juqua Thomas.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

That depends.....

Ever since you found out he was signed, have you spent your time constructing a long winded letter addressed to 49ers ownership expressing your love for them and the 49ers organization and how you are confident that they will bring a championship back to San Fran despite foolish (over)spending?  Have you created a gigantic sig with an image of Nate Clements in a 9ers uniform and put lightning bolts in the background along with some corny "catch phrase" like "Striking Fear in the Hearts of Quarterbacks."  Have you masturbated to a picture of Mike Nolan?

If you answered no to all of the above then you do not, infact, feel like a taterskins fan.

Why do taterskins fans masturbate to pictures of Mike Nolan. It's not suprising, just curious.

I was a big Mike Lewis fan. His time was obviously up here but let's be real...if he "only" got $10M guaranteed over 6yrs then he should still be wearing green. Yes he was a liability in coverage but unless they hit on a stud safety or Sean Considine shows improvement who knows what'll happen there. Maybe Quintin Mikell will show something if need be.

How dare you doubt Sean Considine. He is going to put on a lot of muscle in the offseason and is working out and battling like crazy to get better ball skills.

He very well could. I know I was one who thought that putting him in there at the time was the right move simply because Lewis was struggling so bad. But they each have their flaws and Considine's is that he gets trucked in run support while Lewis looks like a fool in coverage. Maybe Considine does show up this year. Afterall this was essentially his rookie season. But whatever, this team needs to straighten a few areas up and of course they are choosing not to do it.
