QuoteWhile searching Britt Reid's pickup truck in a suspected DUI case, police found more than 200 unidentified pills, authorities revealed yesterday.

They also found a rolled-up $10 bill with white residue, a law-enforcement source confirmed.

Lab results from drug tests done on items found inside Reid's truck are still pending, said Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr.

No charges have been filed against Reid, 22.

Castor cautioned against jumping to conclusions, saying that Reid may have prescriptions for some - possibly all - of the 200-plus pills found inside his truck. Castor declined to confirm whether police had found a curled $10 bill dusted with white powder.

QuoteFavre understands Reid family issues

BY JOHN NALBONE

PHILADELPHIA -- If there is one NFL player outside the Nova Care Complex qualified to speak about what Eagles head coach Andy Reid and his family have been through over the past eight months, it's Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

Having battled his own addic tion to prescription pain killers, the 37-year-old Favre has remained close with Reid since he left Green Bay in 1999 following seven years as an offensive assistant.

While Reid has refused to discuss the many drug and legal is sues that have plagued his oldest sons, Garrett and Britt, Favre dared to "go there" yesterday -- telling reporters he reached out to his former quarterback coach not long after the arrests of the Reid boys in January.

"I feel for him tremendously," said Favre. "I was most shocked about who it was. No one is im mune to things like that, as I have found out in my life. But there are some that you scratch your head. That just baffles me. You don't wish that upon no one."

Garrett Reid, 24, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (of heroin), and then failed an August drug test.

Britt Reid, 22, was arrested for a second time Aug. 23 on suspicion of DUI and drug violations while awaiting sentencing on his January road rage incident. He was jailed for violating terms of his bail after police found an assortment of pills in his vehicle after being stopped in the parking lot of a Plymouth Township (Pa.) sporting goods store.

"I called him right after it happened and told him I've kind of been through some of those things," Favre said. "I just said, 'If I can ever help you, or if you want me to talk to your boys, let me know.' I think he appreciated that. I know Andy probably wonders where he went wrong, or what he could have done different. Maybe there was something. I don't know. Knowing Andy, probably not. All you can do is love your kids, love your family. You can't, for 24 hours a day, right every wrong."

Bill Simmons Eagles preview:

9. Philly
I feel like this Eagles team has one more good run with McNabb and Reid in it. Maybe I'm crazy. Speaking of Reid, some media members always seem surprised when a level-headed, good-natured, well-spoken family man like Reid ends up having a problematic or troubled kid, with the implication being, "Man, if this could happen to (fill-in the coach), it could happen to anyone." Well, imagine being the son of an NFL coach who routinely works 100-hour weeks. How do they juggle coaching and family? If you were Reid's son, you could probably walk around your house emulating Jame Gumb's tuck scene and it would take him 10 minutes to pull his mind away from that week's game just to say, "What the hell are you doing? Put some clothes on!"

How can anyone be a great father and a great NFL coach? How is there enough time in the day? With the way the job evolved over the last 25 years, and with the amount of time it chews up -- not just during the season, but year-round -- the problems of Reid's kids weren't surprising at all. Knowing what we know about that profession, knowing how many times a coach has to move when he's proving himself as an assistant, knowing how fragile and stressful a head coaching job is, knowing that a head coach basically has 53 kids every year ... really, why would anyone want to grow up as the son of a longtime NFL coach? Wouldn't you rather have a dad like me, someone who's home every day and always procrastinating from ever working? If the NFL ever goes to an 18-game schedule, VH1 will be showing a "25 Most Troubled Kids of NFL Coaches" special within five years.

ironically, Ron and Fez did a bit where the Jame Gumb tuck music was playing while I was reading that....freaky

Simmons is occasionally funny, but he sold out big time. I promise to never do that when I'm writing lame TV columns down the line.
