So, let me get this straight:

They're both free speech.  The former gets a lot more play.  And whenever the latter pipes up, people like you start crying.

I'm not asking for your sympathy or even your understanding because as a Christian I don't think it's possible for you to have it, but here goes anyway:

Imagine you're atheist.  I know that's hard because you have such certainty in your magic god, but try anyway.  Imagine you have no belief in God at all.  You live in America, where there is supposed to be seperation of church and state.  Where supposedly there's room for everyone.  At every turn, someone is praising god.  It's on the money.  It's in the courtrooms.  It's in the constitution.  It's in "goodbye" emails from people at the office.  No one praises the atheist individual/people.  Everyone is enjoined to honor "the faithful."  Our athletes are constantly, constantly thanking God--though interestingly those who prefer Muhammed don't get much play--and the television shows are more than happy to extend the platform.  Religion is advanced by everyone from the beat sports reporter to the President as proof that a person is good, etc.  Evidence points sharply to the contrary, but as a non believer you don't have a voice.   Day in and day out you have to endure this barrage of God this and god that.

I know...you're not with me.  That's okay.  Superstition has a stubborn grip.

Given that context, it doesn't surprise me one bit that Christians like you get upset about an atheist poster or two on the internet who's sick of this shtein and happy to say so.  Tough luck sweetie.  You and your people have a lot of work to do if you think we can live without acrimony.  When bullying rich religious people like Haggard or these two punks fall, I celebrate.  If you don't like it, use the ignore feature that came standard issue with your brain.  Or better yet, forgive me.

Dio, where have I "cried?"  Usually, if I don't care for a conversation on these boards (i.e. the dozens of anti-religious rantings from several members), I stay out of the conversation and move on.  I've read a lot of "baby Jeebus" posts, and have said nary a word.  There have been a couple of occasions that I have shared my viewpoint on things, but I think I have been on topic and not overzealous.

I haven't hidden the fact that I am a man of faith, but I don't believe that I have bludgeoned anyone with it, either.

And, yet, I ask one question to a poster - and  I believe I did so respectfully - I get this response from you, Dio.  And you "celebrate" whenever you hear of a high-profile religious figure fall.  I don't celebrate to hear of anyone going bad, whether it be Christian, Muslim, athiest or any other belief system.

As you said, I don't understand your worldview, mainly because it's never been mine.  However, I also haven't tried to belittle your beliefs. You seem to not only try to belittle religious viewpoints, you seem to get some sort of enjoyment from doing so.  And THAT'S the part I truly have a hard time understanding - your extreme (and to me, sometimes a rather irrational) hatred of all things religious - particularly Christian.

Yes, I am a Christian.  And, believe it or not, I am fully aware that I am far from perfect (don't tell this to my wife).  I have my faults - and they're MY faults, not God's or yours or my parents.  I am responsible for my own behavior.

You choose to believe there is no God?  That is your right, according to the first Amendment of the Constitution.  Thank James Madison for that right.  I choose to believe differently.

So, let me get this straight:

For an athlete or coach to "give God the glory" is flaunting his faith publicly.

For a poster to come here and blast everything Christian, to repeatedly and often profanely call it superstition and refer to all adherents as idiots, is free speech.

Am I on target with this summation?

Not exactly. Although Dungy probably isn't the best example, and the NFL isn't as bad as it used to be, I just don't people with an agenda trying to sell me their religion when I don't want to buy. I have no problem with their faith, I just don't want to be hit over the head with it as if I'm wrong for not thinking the same way.

But for a more in depth discussion, you can check out the 250response/3000views in < 48hrs thread on this here:

I'd share more about my personal faith and beliefs but it is getting late and this is cutting into my porn time.

Thanks for the response, Eagleholic.  I am just trying to get a grasp on where your remark was coming from.

One of the Reid sons turned himself in today, and I think Andy did the right thing not being there to walk him in. You can hate Reid all you want, but I think it's the right thing to do. Tell your son he's a grown man, he's done grown man things, and now he has to own up to it himself like a grown man. I'm sure Andy could easily pull some strings or something, but instead he's saying "You're old enough to know you shouldn't be doing shtein like that, and now that you have, you gotta deal with the concequences."

youre being naive to think thats why reid didnt post....he didnt show because if he is at court this story really blows up.....especially nationally....its all over espn and perhaps even starts grabbing the attention of national nightly news ala dungys son...he hasnt commented on this for a reason...for one he doesnt say a lot in general but he specifically wants this kept as a family matter and the less attention the better...which is a smart thing to do but dont think he didnt show because hes all of a sudden some strict disciplinarian
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

That might have been intentional on the defense's part, IGY.  If he shows up looking like a strung out junky, rehab might be perceived as a better alternative than jail for the kid than if he showed up in a $2,000 suit with a haircut and shave.

I'm not saying I agree with that, but that might have been what the defense lawyers were thinking.

and the chewing gum he was chomping on?...was that heronette?

this wasnt a sentence hearing so what does rehab vs jail time have to do with anything...plus the notion that someone would go to court dressed like a junkie to try to convince a judge is hilarious.....i think the needles bags of heron and positive drug test did that for him

maybe reid was like im done with yous go do what you want...i will have no involvement with you whatsoever from here on out until you get yourself straightened out

That sounds pretty accurate. Reid's presence in the court room would do nothing but add an distraction & sensationalize the case even more.

PhillyPhreak54

Agreed on that too.

His kids are "men" and they need to act as such. No Mommy and Daddy hand holding. Step up and take the hit like men.

IGY must've been rockin the WIP this morning because they were discussing what he wore and the fact he was chewing gum. I mean, seriously. Who gives a shtein if the guy has some gum in his mouth? Is it that big a deal? You don't get dressed up to turn yourself in. You get dressed up when you go to your trial.
