I can't hate the Yankees as much anymore.  Yankees and Mets fans hate each other, so the enemy of the enemy is my friend thing applies.  Plus, the Yanks are now the new lovable losers in baseball.

I'm on the fence about Murphy, Raines and Smith. This is going to be one of the last batches of newly eligible players that I actually care about or followed closely. Fascinating, no?

Lee Smith put the fear of God into batters.  He could still be considered one of the three most dominating closers of all time.

A lot of those guys are only on the ballot because they hung around a while, though.

I still can't believe Jim Rice keeps getting rejected.

Tim Raines is one of my all-time favorite players.  I still have the home run ball he hit and subsequently autographed for me at the Vet.

That said - he's not a HOF'er.

Henderson, Blyleven & Jim Rice all get the nod, though.

I agree.  Henderson, Blyleven and Rice all belong in the Hall of Fame.

Blyleven is hurt by not quite winning 300.  12 more wins and we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Rice has been hurt by the steroid era.  He was the best hitter in the league for a half dozen years.

Rickey was being Rickey long before Manny was being Manny.
